When I took a class with Roger Thomas he said to add a drop of liquid dishwashing detergent to the alcohol and mica to break the surface tension. As he is a former chemist by profession I assume this is significant.

Kauai,Hawaii

I believe there is someone on this board living in Kauai. I am leaving this morning for Kauai and would love to meet you while I am on the island. My name is Candy Kahn and my husband Larry and I are staying at the new Poipu Marriott. If you would give me a call there maybe we could get together. Ca...

Two laughs in one day I am in heaven. It doesn't matter that we have been without electricity for the past 16 hours (as soon as it was on I was at the bulletin board). Thanks for the fun.

How To --Woven look bowl??

Happy New Year to All, I want to try to make one of those items that looks as though it is woven with glass threads. I bought stringer from Bullseye and was hoping someone would be so kind as to let me know how to go about this. I assume a tack fuse and then slump. Anything special to be aware of? S...

Southern Oregon is beautiful. We moved from the San Diego area 2 years ago to a ranch outside the town of Jacksonville and love it. I do endurance riding and there are wonderful trails all around this area. I live next to BLM so just saddle up and off I go. The weather is not too cold in the winter ...

old fuser new to dichro has question

Hi all - I've been fusing for a few years but have not used dichroic glass. I have a project where I will use dichro. My question is whether I should cap the dichro with thin clear? What happens if it is not capped vs when capped. I am planning on using CBS thin black dichro. Another question re bla...

You didn't mention how thick your bottom piece was. If it was only a single sheet (1/8) then you didn't have enough pieces on top to make an overall 1/4 inch piece. Glass tries to go to 1/4 inch and will pull everywhere to get there and if there is not enough glass - holes.

I have been using the MK-215GL with my MK tile saw for a couple of years and it works great. The only time I get any chipping is if I push the blade through too quickly. I also keep a new blade handy at all times and use it if I need to make an especially clean cut (one I am not going to refire). Th...

I have to agree with Bert as I too have considered this board a "professional" forum. Sure there are newbie questions over and over as the board becomes more well known. But, remember we have all had to struggle through these in the past and we didn't have the good fortune to have this boa...

Randy, There are several ways you can use pattern bars. You mentioned you arranged the pieces. Do you intend to use them as a stand alone piece? How thick did you slice the bars? How thick do you want the finished piece? Depending on your answers you can fuse the pieces together first and then add t...

A couple of points that have not been hit. Do you use any abrasives when you use the felisatti? Tony , from you last comment about the smooth surface. Do you refire the piece to fire polish after you use the grinder? Amy do you refire or just leave the surface as is? If you don't refire do you coat ...
