Simple question, will borax prevent steel blue (or a glass that behaves similarly) from 'steeling' and keep it blue? I am not using 90 or 96 COE so the oversprays are out, and clear capping won't work with what I am doing.

I can't tell you for sure because I don't know exact temps for that glass, but I have slumped BE orange (which strikes in a full fuse firing) and it didn't strike at 1225 F. Why not email Bullseye and ask them, I bet they can tell you. Or better yet, do a test and then you'll have your answer. lissa.

We have had a really hard time with that saw, so much so that it was shelved and we got another brand. In the past few days we have had to pull it off the shelf and boy does that blade wobble. Use the tile saw if you can and be very gentle and slow with the band saw.

When I was a kid my grandparents took a trip to Italy and brought back a whole set of glasses with that sand in it, they loved them. I remember thinking it was strange and not wanting to drink from the dirty glasses. I needn't have worried though as they were off limits for the kids anyhow.

I did sand it down, but maybe I should really go at it this time. This mold went to an unknown, but very high temp at one point, but I don't see how that would be causing the wrinkling. I'll see what another, deeper sanding does.

Aha! Very interesting. I used a lap wheel to finish these edges before slumping, so it's a pretty sharp edge on the surface of the mold. They are sitting inside the mold completely, but the sharp edge really holds them in place, it is hard to move the glass to get it level. So, maybe it is holding o...

It happened again. I ramped up at 200F to 1150, 45 min. hold. It did not slump completely, which is fine, but got the texture, not fine. All these pieces have BE clear as the bottom layer, could I have gotten an 'off' sheet? This has never been a problem. Arg.

Thanks Cynthia. I like the sound of that schedule, similar to what I normally use but slower. Today I am trying Brock's suggestion. I'll see tomorrow morning. My kiln has top and side elements and is brick. I would love to see this problem disappear back into the thin air it came out of!

Shasta, I wouldn't recommend the stringer technique for millie, but yes you can easily make murrine similar and better than Effetre's with rods and a torch.
