Line shows on opal borders

Once upon a time, there was a very imformative thread about this topic, but I think it's been lost. I'll ask again. Here's the scenario... First layer: Clear glass blank as the base (say 8x8). Second layer: Something interesting in the middle in opal glass (say 4x4). Two inch opal border all around,...

Re: Considering switching to Bullseye glass

When I was in Santa Fe a couple of weeks ago, I went to the BE resource center there. I managed to escape with only some french vanilla and dense white, because I wanted to play around with the reactions. However, I did peak out from behind the blinders and saw some gorgeous stuff, hence the origina...

Considering switching to Bullseye glass

I'm thinking of changing from Spectrum to Bullseye. I'm sure this topic has been discussed in the past, but the posts must be among those that were lost. I know that Spectrum fires at slightly lower temps than BE, and I think it's easier to cut However, the Bullseye color palette has so many more ch...

Re: Bubble or "Tumor" Forming During Slump

I have a mold similar to that. Mine has four holes equally spaced around the inner circle, and no hole in the center.

Re: Ceramaguard

I've also tried to find Ceramaguard tiles. I've looked at Lowes and Home Depot, and found ceiling tiles made by Armstrong, but they do not specifically say Ceramaguard. I plan to try a commercial builders supply next. Any other suggestions?

Re: New series of pics from Patty Gray's class in Eugene Or

Oh my! What a collection of beautiful projects. Looks like a good time was had by all!

I'm curious about the tray-looking square molds/dams that alot of the students used to construct and fire their pieces in. Where can they be purchased?

Would those rubber-coated gardening gloves be enough protection?

Re: Replace broken piece?

I agree with Jeanne and Brock. Have her send a picture of it. If you think she's being honest, give her a refund. If she wants another one like it, and you feel like making it, charge her your regular price, no discount. Your work is one-of-a-kind, and that one is broken. And make sure you don't los...

Re: Brand New Kiln Question

There's are very good video tutorials at the Paragon website on how to use their controllers. My Paragon also came with great written instructions, not only for the controller, but for the kiln itself, which I refer to often! I used to fire my newly kiln-washed shelf per instructions on the primer, ...

Re: Door insert thickness?

I would recommend having your fused panel sealed in an insulated glass unit. I believe building codes will require both sides to be tempered. If it were my fused glass panel, I'd want it protected from all the things that can happen to a door light, inside and outside.

Re: Schedule taking too long

I'm a newbie, so this is probably obvious, but here goes. I discovered, when running my first combing schedule, that my kiln would not actually heat as fast as what was programmed -- 600 degrees per hr. It did pretty well up to about 1475, but struggled the rest of the way to 1700. Just not enough a...
