Hi Kathy, I'm sure Brad will answer you, but as someone who is very close to Corning and goes often, this will be a different situation than the last Warm Glass Week-end. You can walk from the hotel to market street, and walk across the bridge to the museum if you want. It's so small, that everyone ...

Hello Brad S., I second your remarks about the library and the area. I go to Corning often also, but I am an hour east. I also want to put in a plug for the other waterfalls in Ithaca- Tremain, and Buttermilk, but especially Tremain, which has an upper and lower section. The Tremain waterfalls have ...

Stuart, my studio is an hour and 1/2 away, but of course I would welcome any warm glasser. Binghamton airport and Ithaca airports should be considered for those travelling. Leslie

warm glass week end

Brad, I's so glad you're picking Corning for the warm glass week end. I think you'll be very pleased. The Radison there is geared toward glass with glass displays in the lobby. Market street has one of the largest bookstores specializing in glass- your sponser Whitehouse books, and the Corning Museu...

Yes, consignment seems risky, and I don't intend to do it unless I really know the store. Dennis, those are nice clear points on the topic. Right now I've been just approaching one gallery at a time, seeing how it works out before I go to the next so that I don't run into a merchandise shortage. Les...

Hi Marty- actually I think labor cost and material cost are about equal. If I come up with a wholesale price of $175, say, where labor is valued at $20/hr since I feel I am a beginner, I am getting a lot of interest in my pieces, and have had about a 50% sucess rate at galleries. No gallery has said...

galleries that think about it/ 50/50 splits critique

Thank you for your educational replies. Being professional and persistant both sound like good ideas. The saga of this particular gallery is not yet over, so I will be both and see how far I get. In my brief experience, however, I have noticed that gallery owners can be rude. Some are quite lovely a...

when galleries seem very interested but want to think

I am new to approaching galleries, so I'm interested in how often people experience something like this: The gallery owner (seeing my work in person) seems to sincerely love my work, hedges over the price and asks for pictures to share with his or her partners before deciding. Is this a very nice &q...

health ins.

I am paid by health insurance companies as a therapist and I am self-employed so I pay for health insurance. Most states have insurance for the self-employed, artist or not. Contact your small business administration in your area. In my opinion, if you are healthy, you mainly want catastrophic cover...

Please, please, please nobody yell at me for raising this issue, but you say the piece is a "unique shape." Some potter might have spent a lot of time developing that shape and may have an issue with a glass artist using the shape. You might just want to ask the artist if he or she minds, ...

Thank-you Marty, Barbara and Bert. I'm a little confused as to speed of the drilling. Some suggest a faster speed, but the web site where I bought the drill bits says go slow. (400-600 rpm) I guess practicing will give me some further info. I'll try it this week-end, and sand blast if I fail. Leslie...

? for Bert Weiss and others

Hello Bert, I saw a demonstration you led at the warm glass week-end on working with float glass. I don't know if you addressed this, perhaps I missed it, but my question concerns cutting a hole in the bottom of a bowl. I watched you cut a hole in a flat piece of glass, but not in a bowl. I have ava...

Thanks, Marty, I'll check it out. I frequently go to the city, but I am deepening my search for fused galleries large and small now. I hope your work is going well.

fused glass in NYC

I'm going to NYC on Friday and wondered if anyone could suggest a gallery to see fused glass in- in SoHo or other places. Thanks.

Just a comment on Phil Teefy- I've taken classes with some 15 fusing teacher I think, and he is my favorite, if not the best of the lot. No offense to any other teaching, but I think Phil is fabulous.

Charlie, that's really beautiful, a great combination. Do you have close up shots? How did you adhere the glass?

Thank you, Tim

Will the danger of the crack spreading be there even if the crack is only on one side of the glass? It didn't appear to go all the way through.

1/2" crack in middled of 16" platter

Hello Glassies, Honestly, I have graduated from most crack and bubble questions, but this one I haven't seen. I have a textured fused piece which has been fired 3 times I believe and yesterday I sandblasted it. I wanted to fire to 1150 ala Tony Smith, but I see a small 1/2" crack in the platter...
