New Kiln arrived today

Very excited about my new 42" kiln arriving today directly from the manufacturer. Should I be critical that the exterior lid has several areas of fire brick with larger scratches and concrete hole patches? As it was so well packed, these did not occur in shipping, but I suspect before they left...

Screening frit

My frit collection is growing, a good thing  I have a kitchen strainer I use like a gold miner to sort medium sized frit, it has perfect sized chicken wire mini holes. Any suggestion for screening that will sort out finer sizes? Traditional window screen just sorts powder...ideas? Tia!

Re: Olympic / Evenheat Kiln bakeoff

Going with Evenheat, it was so close mainly because I know Olympic service is OUTSTANDING and I was willing to pay more for their kiln. But another artist I met overhead my questions when I was shopping, and offered her opinion as she has both kilns, advising that Evenheat is indeed even heat across...

Re: Tile saw question

Thanks! My budget is going towards a larger kiln so wasn't looking for a huge saw cost. But cutting is getting very old on my swap top!

Olympic / Evenheat Kiln bakeoff

Likely opening up Pandy's box, but after 6 months back and forth I've narrowed down to purchasing either an Olympic 3014 oval -or- same size Evenheat. Production glass tiles and bars are my focus and the occasional bowls and lampshades. I've used both kilns, own an Olympic 14" and really happy ...

Re: Tile saw question

Spoke with HIS, looks like the QEP diamond blade option is the $129 Superlok Glass+ 10" with 5/8" arbor ...Jane, I assume the blade that comes with the QEP takes out more glass (and nicks) than needed, is this your finding?

Re: Tile saw question

Thanks for the quick reply Jane! I'm looking for a rugged get it done saw too, one that works quickly with my bars as I cut them into pendants about 1/2" thick. I planned on calling HIS tomorrow for a glass blade recommendation.

Re: Tile saw question

Jane, curious what your purchase requirements were as I'm shopping for a saw. I have the craft saws we proly all have (taurus 3, inland) but need a beefy one to take on cutting lots of 1/2 " bars.

Any QEP (or other saw) feedback appreciated!

Re: Lettering

Thanks Guy, yes, we're north of Philly, looks like you're near where our son goes to school. And yes, your work is super. The reason for decal preference is my work is small and one-off, although I'm toying with expanding...and I need a good printing partner for mass production. I talked to a print ...

Re: lettering fused into or onto glass

An interesting thread, I've been chasing this one for over a year trying to find a printer. There are a few companies that offer ready made high quality ENAMEL screened waterslide decals, and that combination seems to be key in successful firing results on glass. I've found AAE Glass has the best an...
