HOMEMADE IRIDIZING?

I came across this site in my search of the intertubes... Apparently all it takes is some rubbing alcohol, dish detergent, and mica powder, but the specifics are very non-specific. https://www.gofusing.com/how-to-iridize-glass/ Does anyone have any experience with this technique? How well does it wo...

Re: Computer program for strip cut

I generally use a spreadsheet program, like MS Excel. I highlight the cells in different colors, and can move them around easily, insert additional cell, rows, or columns.
YMMV

It's no dumber on Facebook than anywhere else... ... Don't despise these folks. Encourage them, help them, and keep them coming back for more. At some point, they're gonna get good enough to despise US. Cynthia, you have been one of my favorite personalities on this board since the moment I joined,...

Re: Pattern Bar Piece help plz

It may be that your slices were not clean enough. When I'm slicing up pattern bars, I drop the slices into a bucket of water as I go along, so that the swarf from the slicing does not have a chance to dry on the pieces, and still I scrub them thoroughly when setting them up for fusing.

Re: cutting squares out of circles

Since I am posting so long after the conversation, I imagine no one will read this. 1) Yea Morgana! You never cease to impress and amaze me. 2) I can't imagine what someone would want to cut a square out of a circle. What was that about??? This comes in very handy when you're shopping for a "r...

Re: Broken Bowl Slump

Amy, You mention "It looks like it slumped at the edge of the mold and the edge of the lower shelf." By "lower shelf", do you mean you were slumping various different items on various stacked shelves in the same kiln load? If so, I think that's where most of the problem may lie. ...

Re: Larger kiln - schedule adjustments necessary?

Hi, Eryc, I also have a JenKen 15/6, and I have never been successful doing multiple shelf loads in it at the same time, regardless of the my schedule rigging. The thermocouple is reading the temperature at the outer edge between the shelves, so the top shelf invariably overcooks while the outside o...

Re: brown fibre board?

Most fibre products turn brown on the initial heating, then return to white as the temperature rises. Having only brought it to 135c, you've only partially burned out the organics. Your fibre board should return to white as you bring it hotter in actual use. :)

Re: lettering fused into or onto glass

I would try something like "Flexi-Glass". Make a sheet of dark Flexi, cut the letters out with stencils and an exacto-knife, and fuse them capped with 2mm clear. Simple, quick, cheap, and as legible as your skill in cutting allows. You may even be able to cut the Flexi-glass directly with ...
