Clamshell vs not. Any major Pros or Cons?

So we're looking at getting some kind of kiln and were looking at standard square kilns. I then found some of the Clamshell type kilns that seem to be mostly the same but they can also open up from the bottom. E.g. Paragon Fusion 19 (http://www.paragonweb.com/Fusion-19.cfm) vs Paragon CS-19D (http:/...

Re: Anyone know of a Kiln Database?

Just as an example, this is the one I found online, but it seems to be pretty out of date or missing a bunch of things...

Anyone kow of a Kiln Database?

Since there are lots of brand of kilns and each brand has lots of models, it'd be really helpful if there was a Kiln Database that we could look through. It could just have basic info such as brand, model, price, size, temperature, electricity type, etc. I found one on a different website but lots o...

Re: Need some kiln recommendations...

The main reason we don't want to go small is that if she decides she wants to do something that's more like an art piece, we'd then be limited by what we can fit in the kiln. You can make smaller things in a big kiln but can't make big things in a small kiln... *shrug* Are there any brands that are ...

Need some kiln recommendations...

My wife is looking to get her first kiln. We don't want to go overboard but don't want to get something that she outgrows right away. We figured an 18" inside diameter was as big as we'd need to go. Could go down to 16 or so. We don't have a hard budget but would liek to stay at, or under, the ...

Well, if no one has, I'll have our instructor do some this week and see what happens.

Re: Do touching pieces fuse together or might there be a gap

You might want to try your local stain glass shop they might be able to cut it out in one piece for you. Yeah, my wife is heading there today so I'll have her bring along a sample. The next question is, even if I get the bit "U" piece cut, if I set the design on top of something else and ...

Do touching pieces fuse together or might there be a gap?

So, I'm looking to make a plate with this design on it: http://www.badgerband.com/store/accessories/band_w_decal.jpg I don't have access to any saws and just have glass cutters. I'm not sure if this is even possible but.... Would it work to make the outer "U" shape in 3 straight sections, ...
