The melt was at the beginning of its soak time, so apart from a small amount that came out (and has broke completely in two), I have a plant pot full of glass. If I'd wanted it to anneal like that I'm guessing it would have needed a couple of weeks in the kiln. As it is a pot melt, it wouldn't matte...

Annealing Issue

During a high fire (pot melt) my kiln decided to go fizz pop in quite a dramatic way. Due to this none of the glass in there was annealed properly. I'm hoping that you're going to tell me I can reuse this glass in another high fire but have a feeling you might say the opposite. Is my glass lost fore...

Thanks very much for your responses. The diameter is 28cm/11inch. I'm trying to replicate it in other colours, but it seems that some colours don't like the temp. and time it takes in the kiln. Always learning more. My next task is to figure out what I might be able to sell it for.

Thanks again

Hope you all like it!

Thanks for all your ideas, I've tried another melt with those colours and the same thing happened again. I haven't used anything new in the kiln, so I think its probably the long soak at temp. I'll try venting more but I think I may have to admit defeat. No real loss though, the two melts still look...

The ratio I used is roughly the same as before, slightly more white. Just checked my notes and the previous work was at temperature for less time, so maybe it was the reduction atmosphere. Other than reducing temps and times needed for pot melts, is there anything I can do to reduce the loss of oxyg...

Disappearing Colour

Hi everyone, I've just taken a pot melt out the kiln and I'm a bit puzzled. It was made up of BE opal white (700gms) and transparent light violet (400gms). However, the violet appears to have turned clear, with only the slightest trace left in the middle. I've used these two colours before without a...

display stands

Can anyone help? I'm looking for a supplier/maker of display stands within the UK. I've checked the archives and couldn't seem to find any. I was also wondering how discs can be fitted to the stands? Do they just sit in them or is it more permanent? Silly Questions I'm sure, but I'm just learning. T...

Pot Melt attempts, any tech advice?

Nice work Randy I posted not so long ago for tips on pot melts, so I thought I'd put a couple of pics up of my attempts. http://www.harrisondesign.net/elm_design/potmelt1.jpg http://www.harrisondesign.net/elm_design/potmelt2.jpg I used pots with more than one hole which explains the odd shape but I ...

Firstly, thank you all for your responses! I am finding them very useful. Jerry: When you talk about "spray" for the devit do you mean something like "Spray A Overglaze" I was unsure about using spray because I want to ultimately make tableware, and wasn't sure if this method may...

Hi Thanks for replying, this is the first time I've used this forum and was convinced no one would respond! The glass I've been using is the artista fusing range by desag and my kiln is quite a large front loader. Regarding the cooling time, I had thought the devit was due to being too high for too ...

Pot Melting tips required!

I have recently purchased an old ceramics kiln which I would like to use for Pot Melts. I am quite new to Kiln Glass and so far have had some good and some not so good results from it. The kiln appears to be extremely well insulated and cools very, very slowly. I have had some results from the kiln ...
