Re: oceanside QC

I am a "fuser only" but I have moved seamlessly from Spectrum to Oceanside. I have 100s of ft2 of both (some very old Spectrum that almost pains me to use, LOL). I mix and match, without issue. I always see comment about OC's lack of color choices compared to BE, but I just don't see this ...

Re: Brock Craig has passed on.

I am sorry to hear. He was a wealth of knowledge.

Like others I miss the days of this vibrant board. You all taught me how to fuse :)

I guess video killed the radio star.

Re: Modifying a slumping mold

These were made in 5" ball surface molds. I used SilkMatte. It works fine for larger pieces as well.

Re: how is the best way to hang a fused piece of glass o the wall

Generally, it's best to think about hanging before making the piece so you can design the piece accordingly. I recently did a presentation on different hanging methods for my glass guild. I am happy to send a copy to you if you would like. Send an email at j e s t e r s b a u b l e s GMAIL. The one ...

Re: Opinions re: 6.5" deep kiln models

It all depends upon what you plan to make. 6.5" is too short for anything but shallow drop-out vases and vases draped over floral formers. Any mold that is fairly deep/sits tall in the kiln is going to have to be fired very conservatively or you will experience uneven heating/thermal shock. Tha...

Re: Bubble trouble

I think you are fusing to too high of a temperature. 1645 deg F is HOT for full fuse. The glass is flowing at this temp (in its cute little viscous way ;) ) Normally you would go to about 1465-1480, depending upon the glass.

Re: Wave Mold Slump Breakage

Upon a second look - is that System 96 glass? If so, your anneal temp should be 950.

Re: Wave Mold Slump Breakage

There is no such thing as "too long of an anneal" and since the fiber paper will insulate the glass, you need to adjust your ramp up. I would try 100/hr. If you are holding three hours at 900 deg, the annealing should be sufficient.

Re: crisp lines with powders and frit

You could use Liquid Glassline and then fill in with frit. Google it - Richard La Londe. Basically CMC & glass powder, piped through a cake decorating bag. There's a free tutorial out on the internet somewhere.

Re: Concerning firing enamels

Hello Ms. Havi, I know with the Colorline enamels, the reds will burn out unless they are fired on their own. They are affected by a reduced oxygen environment so any organics in the kiln that are burning off will affect the color (including the binder in other enamels in the same firing) So, paint ...

As a seasoned procrastinator I am proud to say mine are bagged and ready to box/ship -- EARLY! Of course, I submitted my entries tonight for a statewide competition 2.5 hours before the deadline (submissions have been open for a month).

Looking forward to seeing all the ornaments soon!
