Thank you Bert! My Good Will martini shaker price was $3.00 as well :) SCORE! I'll get on with the experimentation...

Re: Quenching glass

Would someone be able to share again how to tell that your stainless steel object (bowl, wok, form, etc.) is or is not galvanized? I came back from Good Will with a Martini shaker that looks promising...Of course, it's tempting to keep it for making martinis, but I prefer wine...LOL

Re: Tack fusing frit balls

You will find, if you pack them in real tight, that the glass balls expand when you introduce heat. Some that are very close the edge of your design may be pushed off. Leaving a tiny bit of wiggle room around the pieces close to the edge may prevent stray balls from escaping. Glass tac would work ju...

Love this! Stellar job! I would be proud to display that award... There were lots of Andie MacDowell "sightings" when she was in Woodstock, IL filming Groundhog Day with Bill Murray. I lived in Woodstock at the time and watched several scenes being filmed. A friend of mine was an extra in ...

Re: GE Silicone II

I have used boat loads of GE Silicone II Window and Door- "Clear" on glass garden totems as well as a mosaiced bowling ball that have lived outside and survived the deep freeze of multiple northern IL winters. The thing I like about this stuff in particular is that for a little extra expen...

Bullseye also has a really awesome in depth video about this subject if you are a video subscriber. Part appears to be available FREE, but I think for the more detailed stuff you need to be a subscriber.

Re: quality glass cutter

So far my Bohle Silberschnitt has been my favorite cutter to date. I went through a pistol grip phase, but find I am enjoying the feel of an easy grip approach to glass cutting. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Silberschnitt-Easy-Grip-Glass-Cutter-Adjustable-BLUE/351203375131?_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850&a...

Re: Cutting, devit spray, and other questions

Just curious if you vent to 1000 degrees when you use the thinfire? Since you have a good amount of it to use up, that is one strategy that helps the binder burn off and escape the kiln. You can also attempt to burn off the binders and prefire your thinfire. Heat to 1000 and hold for 30 minutes. How...

Re: Annealing question...

I appreciate your helpful feedback. Thank you so, so much! I know I had read about the possibilities of annealing together...It makes sense. I just had not tried it to be on the safe side. But this will most definitely simplify my life during this time of transition... :) I have read, and reread Ren...

We so love the Mythbuster guys! Thank you for sharing this! It intrigued my 7th grade artistically inclined & gifted daughter enough to watch the entire thing, part 1 and part 2. She's already asking the good questions. This girl is most definitely one to keep an eye out for in the next generati...

Annealing question...

I have been phasing out my System 96 glass as I switch to BE. However, on occasion, I have some of both COEs that need firing. These have all typically been coaster sized or smaller 2 layered pieces. Dumb question: Can I program two anneals into a firing schedule without problem? It seems logical bu...

Best book I've read in long, long time....

Winter, illness, post-holiday blahs had me finally slowing down enough to read a book in its entirety! I couldn't put this one down...It was an eye opener and inspiration to me on so many levels. Do you have any books you have recently read that you recommend? Book: Van Gogh's Untold Journey http://...

Re: Has anyone perfected opaque frit balls?

Like Morganica suggests, I have been having more success at a peak temperature in the 1450 range with BE frit balls in my kiln. The opaque balls still pick up a tiny layer of kilnwash. However, after a long soak in vinegar, it comes right off. I pour them into a strainer and agitate them around for ...

There are no prerequisites to join most groups so you have gifted artists along side hobbyists. The...
