Re: Has anyone perfected opaque frit balls?

Silly question perhaps but can you make opaque frit balls on thin-fire paper? Then just wash the powder off after they are fused into balls?

Re: ROCIPROLAP

Neoprene is what they make wetsuits for scuba diving from. Do you have pool noodles? Usually, here in the States, you can get these large floating pool "noodles" cheap at discount or drug stores. You could also try that material. Good luck and La Shana Tova! Rachel Imaglassydiva@aol.com

Re: Dang bubbles

A chad is a little piece of glass, that you use at the edges of the two layers of glass to help air escape during the bubble squeeze. It allows the center of the piece to start to fuse before the side do; as if the sides fuse first, then air, ergo bubbles, get trapped in the middle. Chads can be a s...

Re: Earring Bails or Small Rings for Earring Wires

This is a little off topic, but for glue on Sterling bails, you can use necklace "plaques". These are the little (about 1/2 inch flat thingies available at most findings vendors. Also come in gold filled. Very inexpensive as they are quite thin. Far far less expensive than the earring bai...

Re: Earring Bails or Small Rings for Earring Wires

I would think that any jump ring you use in transparent glass earring would show. I used some under dichro on clear and that's what happened. I didn't like the look. I use .999 fine silver to make rings. Off hand I can't remember the gauge but I'd guess 18 or 20. I get it at my glass supplier. It f...

Re: Earring Bails or Small Rings for Earring Wires

fused glass earring.jpg OK. I took this from the internet images page. Earrings are made by Gallery Five so I thank Gallery Five very much for letting me use their picture as an example. There are tiny rings coming out the glass itself. Is that simply a stainless steel jump ring? Thanks Gallery Fiv...

Earring Bails or Small Rings for Earring Wires

I often see people making earrings and they either have small bails glued onto them or some of them use some kind of small ring at the very top of the earring. I know I can buy small bails and glue so I am interested in the small rings that seem to be in the earring itself, and not glued on. I tried...

Re: Orange park/ Jacksonville Florida

If you have a wholesale account, you can go to Art Glass Warehouse in Cocoa Beach. Their website is not very good (unless they have changed it in the past few months) but once inside the store, you can spend quite some time. But again, only wholesale. Also some places in Atlanta but I know that not'...

Re: SandBlaster Gloves

ok....I am going to approach the problem from the other view....not changing out the gloves. If your small pieces of jewelry are flying about because they are too small to hold in the big gloves, stick the individual pieces to a strip of duct (duck?) tape. You can tape a bunch of pieces on a long pi...

Re: Ben & Vanessa's Newcomer Questions and Endless Posts

Welcome. Not to get into a discussion of coe 96 versus 90, but you are about an hour north of AAE Glass, a great Bullseye resource center. AAE Glass is in Cape Coral. Also, you CAN fuse with leftover stained glass. But, since the coe is unknown, it would have to be fused unto itself, has a high prob...

Re: Working With Silver Foil?

Thanks Brock! My game plan is to fire two layers of 3mm glass; one clear layer and one french vanilla layer. Then, layer on bits of silver foil and then a sprinkle of coarse frit in a reactionary color. So, I do not plan on capping it. Was worried about fumes and stains! I will proceed this weekend!...

Working With Silver Foil?

So, I would really like to work with silver foil and I have some that I bought a while ago from a Bullseye Distributor. I was going to do something along the lines of the Bullseye's "a riot of effects" where you use silver foil, french vanilla, and some of the reactive blues. Those of you ...

Sandblaster

The studio where I help out at is tossing around the idea of getting a sandblasting system. The studio manager asked me if the same unit could be used for BOTH glass and ceramics. He has no experience in glass ( he manages the ceramic side) and the owner is currently out on maternity leave. So, coul...
