Customers Asking for Discounts

I did a show recently, where it felt like 1 in 3 people asked for some kind of discount. I will usually give a discount for quantity purchases (if they ask), but most everyone at this show was buying one item, and asking. I was not giving these people discounts, but by the end of the day I was worn ...

Re: 10" Wet Tile Saw

I currently use A Harbor Freight tile saw. I have had it for about 3 years now. Made thousands of cuts, still working fine. It looks like I have a model that preceded the model you are looking at (I have this model: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Krt6Ezfb7Eo). The only issue I have is that it cuts j...

Glass Dust Collection/Extraction

I do a fair amount of wet grinding, sawing, etc. I have a window fan and a hepa filter covering it to help extract the dust. I still get some dust settling on the floor, workbenches, etc. I have looked into some cheap alternatives (Harbor Freight dust collector, etc.), but they seem more geared towa...

Re: Super Spray Streaking

Thanks for the tip. I bought a Badger 250-2 with a compressed air can to try (whole setup cost me ~$30 with coupon from Michaels.).
Results were much better.
I Just need a bit more practice to get more proficient with using the airbrush.

Super Spray Streaking

I have been testing Super Spray A for my bottle devit issues (I usually use Borax concoction with fair success). I brush on Super Spray with a foam brush, then fire to 1430. The gloss looks good, but the bottles have brush streaks in the glass after firing. Anyone have suggestions to eliminate the s...

Thanks, I was kinda wondering if that would help.

Here is my schedule:
600/1000/10 (250/1000/10 maybe?)
250/1295/10
Full/1325/5 (I think I can eliminate this, as the slump seems to be done at 1295)
Full/1020/120
Off

What would you change?

Keeping Blank Straight In Mold

I am cutting up recycled glass, and fusing blanks. I then put the blank into a small bowl mold. Sometimes the bowl comes out a bit crooked. (One side higher than the other).

Any suggestions to fix this?

Stainless Steel Molds

I just got some stainless steel bowls to use a molds. I am trying to get Primo Primer to stick. I sanded the bowls, cleaned, heated to 500, and applied primo. Couple questions. 1. I assume I put 3-5 coats on. Do I need to heat every time to 500? I kept applying coats while it was cooling, It appears...

Re: Share your water drip techniques and methods

I use Loc-line as well (for my homemade flat lap). I really like it, since I can position it where I want, and it stays. I sometimes have to grind continuously for hours, so I needed an unlimited source of water. I connected to my garden hose. I got a "Y" valve (Home Depot) for my hose, wh...

Primo Primer Muck

I have been testing Primo Primer, and like the results. One thing I have noticed though, is the primer tends to "muck" up in my storage container. I mix it in an old Gatorade bottle, put the marbles in it, and shake it up well. If it sits for longer than a day, the primer separates from th...

Re: Overglaze vs Super spray for Devitrification

I get all the label residue off the bottles, wash them, then wipe them thoroughly with 91% alcohol. They are spotless. I then spray with my borax mix(wipe it around with my finger or brush), dry, then put in kiln. I haven't done much with blue bottles yet... I have noticed green bottles almost alway...

Overglaze vs Super spray for Devitrification

I sometimes get devitrification on bottles I slump and fuse. I have been using the recipe of borax and water. Seems to work ok, but thinner and brown glass is more prone to devit it seems. I have been hearing reading about Super Spray A and Clear Coat Overglaze. It's my understanding that the Warm G...

Oval Kiln Warp

I am looking to purchase a new kiln. Two I am looking at are: Evenheat 2541, and Skutt 1414. I have been reading some posts online about lid warp (or wings). The posts appear to be older (2001ish-2004ish).
Is lid warp still an issue with these kilns, or have these issues been resolved?

The first costs $20 and you have to put a couple of hooks in the ceiling.
Good idea! I think I can rig up something like this.

Thanks

Do I Need Lid Assist?

Researching a new kiln, so I have lots of questions :D

The kilns I am looking at are top load ovals (e.g Evenheat 2541, Skutt GM 1414, Olympic 3014GFE).

These kilns have an option for a "lid assist" to help with opening the lid.

Is this a must have? How much do these lids weigh?

Multiple Shelves

I am looking to get a larger kiln. The units I am looking at are top loading ~13" depth. (e.g Evenheat 2541, Skutt GM 1414, Olympic 3014GFE). Elements are contained in the lid, and sides. I would like to add a 2nd shelf in order to fire on 2 levels at times. From reading this forum, it seems th...

I could, but that is a bit time consuming, plus I am looking for more of a "broken" look.
