Re: mold like this but in 4"

I have that mold from Slumpys. 5" is the measurement of the bottom of the mold. I believe the measurement from the top (the very tips of the corners) are 4 3/8". Would probably be the perfect size for your 4" pieces. I remember because I had some 4 7/8" blanks so I ordered the 5&...

Re: Distressed look for Iridized glass

I'm not experienced enough with irids to provide an accurate response but one thing comes to mind. Could you encourage cracks in the irid coating by lightly scratching it? The scratch would make the coating weaker in that location so that it might actually open once the glass itself starts moving in...

Re: Screen Melt Bowl Failures

I agree with Haydo about the baffling. I have to baffle in my smaller kiln, and now I use baffles in every single firing in that kiln. There is a lot of heat directed to the edges and the center is still waiting for the heat. Enormous difference in heat between the edges and center, no matter how sl...

Wow, Haydo! Looks like a lot of coldworking on your part. I think your failure has turned into a huge success. Again, wow!

Re: Good person to contact at Paragon

I read the same thing Rick. Made me giggle.

Hoping that someone has had personal experience with someone at Paragon. I need to work with a different representative but my person refuses to direct my case/situation to someone else.

Good person to contact at Paragon

Can someone give me the name of a helpful person at Paragon? My new kiln arrived damaged and the person I've been working with for several months is less than helpful. I really want to get this issue resolved.

Re: Advice on buying a new 120V kiln :(

I have a CS16S with the 12-key controller. My personal thoughts... - Mine is clamshell (S), not top loading (D). The top is VERY heavy so I wish I had got the top loading, or the dual top model. It is really hard to peek into the kiln when you have to use two hands to hold the top open. - They insta...

Re: Advice on buying a new 120V kiln :(

I'm so sorry Jodi. How frustrating, especially this time of year. But, don't give up on your kiln just yet. Do some research like Cynthia says. Nearly everything can be replaced and the cost is much less than you think. It could be as simple as cleaning and tightening all the connections to the coil...

Photography booth/area so it's always set up with lights and background. That way there is no excuse to get those pesky pics taken. Lockers for employees and students? For boots/shoes, purses, personal property tools and safety equipment, jewelry, cell phones, etc. Maybe have some sort of sound-proo...

Re: On edge clear strips

I just had a brain jolt! Or was that the coffee? What if each strip had a light coating of Super Spray or Spray A or whatever so that when the pieces were assembled the fluxing agent was between the strips of glass? I only use home-made devit solution so I don't have any to make a test.

Re: On edge clear strips

I put a test piece (5x5") in the kiln yesterday, with powder on top (before reading Ms Cynthia's post). Looking at it right now and I can't decide where the lines are coming from. Are they on the top or bottom, or are they inside the body of the glass? I really don't think they are on the top s...

Re: On edge clear strips

I had planned on assembling the piece on Papyros or Thinfire. Probably Papyros. I'm always moving the pieces around and changing my mind, never quite satisfied. The paper makes a huge difference. Does anyone think that a light coating of clear powder would help to make the lines disappear? Charlie: ...

Re: On edge clear strips

A big thank you to everyone for helping. So basically there really isn't a technique to eliminate the fine lines between clear strips other than making sure the glass is super clean without any cleaning residue. That's what I'll do then. Thanks again for all your help!

Well, yes, I have used strips that way before. But, in this case it wouldn't work and I can't think of a way to explain. I'm going to post a portion of a picture and hope that I'm not abusing someone's rights. Gimme a minute.

On edge clear strips

I've been planning a piece in my head for a few weeks but can't seem to figure out my strategy. When making a piece using on edge strip construction that involves lots of clear strips (with some opal strips here and there) I'm afraid that lines between adjacent clear strips will be seen. Is there a ...

Re: Boron Nitride after Kiln Wash?

I have a few molds that I have done this and I love the smoother surface. Remember that once you use BN you can't go back to kiln wash. As far as using Slide... I have had two issues with glass sticking to molds when using BN, both happened when using Slide. The glass never did come off the molds.
