Re: large kiln firing

You can alleviate it by warming the glass up again slightly, after it's stopping moving, just enough to relax it back down to the shelf and eliminate the stress. Then you go through the rest of the anneal as usual. Cynthia, could you please elaborate a little on this important adjustment that you a...

Re: Custom stand

I like the picture, the feeling of light between the trees and betwen the leaves in the foreground. It's beautiful. And this granite and iron stand is just what it needed in order to highlight its mood.

Re: Fall colours

Leslie, Joyce, Judd and Emily, Thank you for your kind words - i'm so happy you liked the piece. Leslie, since I follow your every single work stage you're posting and admire so much the way you turn Landscape into Art, your appreciation is so encouraging for me. I consider myself to be an Old natur...

Fall colours

This piece [System 96, 45x23 cm] was inspired by the fall colours I witnessed at Nikko, Japan. They still haunt me many months after i came back home. Some of the glass components underwent 5-6 firings. Since during the last years I learned so much from this forum, your oppinion is really important ...

Re: Copper foil piece gone horribly wrong

I found that a very easy way to clean the adhesive out of the copper foil is to boil the foil with some baking soda [sodium bicarbonate]. After several minutes I spool the adhesive on a wood skewer.

Re: Error message on kiln controller

I also got such a message with my Bartlett controller connected to a custom made kiln, some months ago. In my case it allowed the kiln to reach a much higher temp than intended when ramping up. The diagnosting question I was asked by the technician was if I can still hear the knock noises of the con...

Re: How to avoid slumping when fusing over a glass net?

Bert, thank you. But, if cold fusing, shouldn't I be afraid of the KILN GOD's wrath  ?

Re: How to avoid slumping when fusing over a glass net?

I would glue the bottom net to the solid piece and then press them into a bed of dry plaster or kiln wash. Then I would place the top net on and fire. R. Thank you Rossana, seems a great idea and easy to apply. Do you think that the powder kilnwash or plaster will provide enough support? I have bot...

How to avoid slumping when fusing over a glass net?

I like a lot the organic look of 1 layer glass nets made of irregular strips and their rounded holes. I would like to tack-fuse a 6mm full sheet piece of 10x20 cm BETWEEN two such nets, partially overlapping. Some of the net holes are around 2 cm diameter. The main problem , as i see it, is that the ...

Re: Virtual kiln-forming

Don and Terry, THANK YOU for your suggestions. Looking at your websites and magical glass drawings, I think I understood how Photoshop can help your design. Using the Multiply blending mode in order to mimick glass stacks is a fantastic idea. I will also try to get the 96 system CD because i'm using...

Virtual kiln-forming

Hello Lately, i'm combining part sheets with layers of powder and frits drawings done by using different techniques. Since my drawing skills are quite miserable, I'm not making an initial drawing and trying to reproduce it in glass, but i like to get my inspiration from the glass itself and to chang...

Re: designing & firing a 5 layer project

Just FYI, Bulleye's posted an interesting tip on reducing bubbles between layers of glass in a stack--basically, sift a little clear powder down on the bottom sheet, top it, and fire with a bubble squeeze: http://www.bullseyeglass.com/methods-ideas/powder-power.html I've done this inadvertently a f...
