Re: Layered blocks.

Go for it! The MAGE needs more kiln formed entries. Not for me this year as I am with a group from Bluedog Glass that is heading off to Portland for a week of classes. No time to sort out entry photos.

Re: "Dumbing down" of glass art?

Just need to check, the definition of stupidity is doing something that was a spectacular fail a second time because it might work next time. Apparently stained glass samples are fine to fuse to a sheet of 96 because they will be either 96 or 90. FGF facebook page of course.

Re: Bullseye 1015 - reacts with silver

I've seen a box by Nathan Sandberg made with this glass. He brought it to Aus. In October. I don't have a photo but there is clearly a reaction. Bullseye won't ship any to Australia yet so haven't tried it.

Re: Kiln shutting off

Thanks Arnold - Tetlow did suggest adjusting the safety switch, and luckily for me the technician was out at one of the local schools, called in and changed the relay over as it was burnt out. Just waiting for the bill (can't actually believe there are still businesses that don't want payment on the...

Re: Kiln shutting off

The photos should be rotated 1/4 turn clockwise! The bottom of the kiln is on the right of the photo.

Re: Kiln shutting off

Took the side off the control. I do have two elements and it appears there may be a problem with one of the switches. I will be calling the kiln techs on Monday.

Re: Kiln shutting off

I think there is only one element (small kiln) about 12 inches cubed. Will reheat to see if this is so. Safety switches on lids / doors in Australia to have to get up to highish temp and whip the door open to see. Hopefully it isn't the controller as it is less than a year old. Its 5 am here and aft...

Kiln shutting off

Looking for hints about what might be wrong before I call the kiln people over from the other side of the city (and have to pay a call out). Temps are in celcius (I am in Australia) Kiln fire successfully through: 70 degrees per hour to 210 degrees 200 degrees per hour to 500 degrees - hold for 5 Is...

Re: Thermal shock or careless handling?

Am currently using 25 dph from 490 to 425(?) then 100 to 250. The question mark is because I am at work and can't actually go and check.

As a kiwi living in Australia I hope you are getting some PM responses.

If you have no responses try seeing whether any of the Ranamok Prize NZ based artists are contactable.

Re: dichroic and no kiln

What size kiln? Single phase? You can pick up kilns on eBay for the cost of your freight. I did approx 1 year ago. Then paid Tetlow in Melbourne to do a safety check. While it is a ceramic kiln, front loading, this hasn't been a problem. The studio I work at a number of these klns and provided you m...

Re: About reactives - in BE glass

You can achieve a very pale blue / turquoise using copper leaf on reactive cloud. It is delicate and pale and I don't know how you'd get it on the interface between two pieces of glass (although now you've got me thinking!).

Re: Wearing gloves when cutting glass

I too am supposed to ensure I avoid cuts on my right hand /arm for medical reasons. However, I find that when cutting with the cutter in my right hand it tends to be my left hand which is cut. Five years on I have not yet had any issues but do continue to use the arm exercises prescribed by the phys...
