Re: Super Spray A Reaction, Shadows, Polishing

Brad- Thank you for your comments. I really appreciate them. I removed the stains. I didn't think the brush I used with the Super Spray A was contaminated, but I didn't give my husband the 3rd degree to see if he borrowed it. There were some dichro pieces in the load. Could that have caused the prob...

Super Spray A Reaction, Shadows, Polishing

I fused Spectrum stacked squares and I was pleased with the effect. The finished thickness of each piece is about 5/16". The two items are 7.5 x 7.5 and 6 x 9 inches. The edges needed some smoothing because of contact with fiber paper lining the dams. I used a grinder, cleaned the ground edges a...

Re: Question on speeding up cooling below 750°F

Reread the entire thread. All the guidelines you need are there. Everyone's kiln and practice is different. You'll find out what your parameters are when your work starts cracking on cooldown. I am trying to avoid cracking on cooldown without having almost a 24 hour cycle. Back when I was working, ...

Re: Question on speeding up cooling below 750°F

I agree with all the others, Turn off the kiln (I turn it off at 700 deg F), and walk away. I may open the kiln at 200... maybe. That involves cracking the lid 1" to 2" and... walking away. If it is important enough to fire, it's important enough to let it cool on its own, IMO. I have a d...

The bowl came out just fine. It now needs to be polished.

Thanks for the advise and encouragement.

11" disc - 12" mold

What problems should I anticipate if my fused disc is 11" but the bowl mold is 12"?

Is it a very bad idea to slump my 11" disc into the 12" mold?

TIA

Plugging the hole

Hi all- I recently had some bricks replaced in my kiln. I didn't notice it when the repairman was at the house, but he didn't make a hole in a brick large enough to accept the plug that came with the kiln. I have 1/8" fiber paper. Could I use that to plug the hole? Would there be a problem if I...

Since I am posting so long after the conversation, I imagine no one will read this.
1) Yea Morgana! You never cease to impress and amaze me.
2) I can't imagine what someone would want to cut a square out of a circle. What was that about???

Re: HELP with Bartlett RTC1000 program delay

Lynn - Thanks for checking on the controller operations. My problem is that I never fired the kiln so the program didn't run. It looks like the delay is a separate program, not part of the user program. I let the delay run out on my one minute schedule and it was finally gone. Case closed (unless Ba...

Thanks Eryc. I already emailed them. Hope to hear from them tomorrow. At least I'll know what to do if I goof like this again. (It's doubtful I'll make this mistake again. #-o )

Re: HELP with Bartlett RTC1000 program delay

I tried that but it didn't work. That's what I meant when I said that I tried to enter a different user program. When I try to reprogram the delay, the 6 hours comes up and will not budge no matter what I push. It is like the 6 hour delay is stuck in there forever. Thank you for offering to check yo...

HELP with Bartlett RTC1000 program delay

Does anyone know how to get rid of a delayed start? I'm at my wits' end. Dang. Yes, I read the RTC1000 manual - several times. I checked the Bartlett website. Nowhere can I find how to get rid of a program delay. Unfortunately for me, the delay was set for 6 hours. I tried a different user. I turned...

Help with firing schedule, please...

This cracked, half-inch piece (Spectrum 96) was fused, coldworked, firepolished, and slumped. It cracked into two pieces probably because I heated it too quickly during the slump. I want to re-fuse it, resulting in a thinner piece. I am more interested in a thinner result than I am in having the two...

Re: Salvage ideas for cracked thick piece

Hi Marty- I don't know what's up with the schedule. I copied it from the Spectrum website. http://system96.com/Pages/ThickFiringGuideF.html I'll cut it up and hope I get something nice out of it. It took me 7 months to get around to slumping it. I imagine it will take me another 7 months to cut it u...

Salvage ideas for cracked thick piece

I make a very thick piece (8 X 10 in.) using Spectrum. It grew to about 1/2 thick because I needed to make sure that some mica inclusions were completely covered. It fused nicely. I trimmed it a bit and fire polished it. So far so good. A few months later I got around to slumping it in a simple squa...

I guess they're not as fragile as I thought. Thanks for the reassurance -- just carefully stack them with maybe a little packing foam to boot.

Mold Storage Ideas

I'd like to keep my molds in good shape, so I'm looking for ways to store them. As with most people, space is at a premium. The flimsy boxes that the molds arrive in are annoying, so any suggestions on how to keep molds from getting damaged while they are waiting to be used would be most helpful. Th...
