Re: Bubbles and Fiber paper

The notches are next to the kiln shelf and the holes are in the top glass layer farthest from the fiber. Open holes towards kiln elements. So this air is trapped??
No way to squeeze them out?

Bubbles and Fiber paper

Never had this happen before to me. Did the fiber paper insulate the glass so it didn't fuse well? But why the totally regular, evenly spaced small holes on the edge? Firing schedule 250 500 30 min 250 1150 30 min 100 1250 30 min 400 1480 10 min 400 1500 10 min 400 950 90 min 100 800 10 min 200 700 ...

Jen-Ken Kilns

The Jen-Ken AFG JK Squared (27 x 27 x 15 deep) http://jenkenkilns.com/afgoval9-1-2-1.aspx has a lot of appeal for our studio because we are primarily a pottery. Has anyone had experience with this brand of kiln?
Thank you.

Evenheat Kiln Studio Pro 41 vs Evenheat GTS 2541

After the forums input, I decided going to a larger kiln made more sense. I like the idea of having a single shelf that will hold (6) 10" circles for full fusing. Now with my very limited experience would there be any advantage to have the side elements in the Evenheat GTS 2541 vs the top only ...

Slumping- number of molds at once?

Thank you all for your input on buying a kiln. Now one more question before I take the plunge. Can I slump more than one mold in a Skutt Clamshell (20" shelf) or Skutt 1014 (22" shelf)? Will have side elements blocked from one mold cause a significant problem? Will location in a element to...

Re: Buying a Kiln

Buying a kiln for our pottery studio. We have limped along using a pottery kiln for large pieces (10" bowls, 12" platters) Now we want a dedicated kiln for glass. We have a Paragon kiln for jewelry (7" x7" inside) We want to be able to fuse and slump 4x5", 3x3", 8X8&quo...

Buying a Kiln

Hi All, I am interested in buying a glass kiln. I have narrowed my choices down to 3 kilns- I think? Skutt Clamshell GM22cs, Skutt GM1014 and Paragon 10. I want to be able to slump and drape well. Also I am wondering about ease of element replacement and lid material stability. Thank you for your ex...

Re: Broken Bowl Slump

Thank you everyone for your input. To answer a few questions: (1) the piece was circular to begin with (2) it was being slumped INTO a 10" bowl mold (3) I had 4 molds in the kiln, 1 mold per half shelf, stacked in a Skutt pottery kiln. I had done this before with no problems. (4) I do have Brad...

Re: Broken Bowl Slump

Skutt kiln used mostly for pottery. Here's the schedule I used for slumping taken from System 96 booklet.
Ramp > Goal temp > Hold Time
150> 300> 15'
300> 1100> 20'
150> 1235> 15'
9999*> 950> 60'
150> 800> 10'
300> 100> 0

Broken Bowl Slump

I full fused this piece (see photo) in our pottery kiln. I programed a slump with 3 other bowls. All bowls were fine- but this one- It was thinner than the other 3 bowls. It looks like it slumped at the edge of the mold and the edge of the lower shelf. When did it break?? I am new to fusing. I used ...
