Re: How to Fire Dichroic and Retain Colour

Thank you everyone. I really appreciate the replies and help. Unfortunately, it seems that getting red is out of the question as there isn't a colour above that to shift down. I sort of assumed that, after my endless tests, but hoped that someone may have some trick. Seems like we're all in the same...

How to Fire Dichroic and Retain Colour

Hi Everyone I am out of ideas with this problem. Everything dichroic I fire shifts colour to the blue end of the spectrum. I have tried so many times but can't get the dichroic to retain its original colour. Just fired a piece that was rich magenta and its now more blue than anything. I have a lot o...

Re: Is float glass food safe?

I was just worried about the tin side more than anything. And I will make sure that my enamels are fired correctly.
Thanks all.

Best saw in Australia

Has anybody in Australia managed to purchase a decent sliding table tile saw at a reasonable price that work well? To clarify a little. I am looking for a decent saw for cutting things like thick pattern bars into thin (6mm) slices without the slices falling down and jamming, or shattering, or chipp...

Cutting 6mm slices on a tile saw

Hi Would really like to know how others are getting around a problem with most tile saws. The problem is cutting 6mm slices from things like pattern bars. Most saws have a wide slot in the table for the blade to run through. Cutting a 6mm slice has the danger that the slice will fall through the bla...

Re: Walls of drop mold vase very thin

Brad, I tried 3 layers and it was still very thin. Could it be that the glass is too close to the elements?

Walls of drop mold vase very thin

This is my very first attempt at using a drop mold. The mold was created out of fibreboard. A simple square with a square hole. I prefused 2, 3mm pieces of glass, which from research was right for a drop of 100mm (4inches). The drop was quite slow and took about 2 hours. Did I drop it too much as it...

How to add glass marble as feet to a bowl

Hi All
Noticed on the web a photo of a fused glass bowl that had glass marbles added as feet. Couldn't see exactly how attached but I assume they have been glued.
Has anybody tried anything like this and if so how did you do it and well did it work?
Regards
Jeff

Making bisque ceramic molds

About to give making molds for small soap dishes etc a go. I have some clay left over from some pottery classes so I was going to use that. It is PB103 fine white stoneware clay. Should this be okay to use? When I make the molds should the back be hollowed out to reduce mass and thus mass sitting on...

Re: Fusing small dots and opalescent glass

Hi Cynthia
The tumbler idea is very timely as we just purchased a small one. I thought of using that but assumed it would be too rough for the small glass pieces.
What grit and media are you using in the tumbler?

Re: Fusing small dots and opalescent glass

Mike and Don, they were fired at 790 C (1454 F) for just 10 minutes. Most rounded nicely, a couple still were slightly square. This is assuming my kiln temp is accurate. Maybe I should try and have it checked. Valerie, I will try that vinegar to clean them as well. I had cleaned them quite well by s...

Fusing small dots and opalescent glass

Hi All My problem is with making what I call dots, or small round cabochons (up to 10mm). I am making them by cutting a 10mm square piece of 3mm glass and full fusing to a round cab. Using Bullseye 90 glass and firing on BE kiln paper. The transparents work fine, but opalescents all pick up the pape...

Re: Devit solution left stains on bottom of piece!

Just to clarify, I was using Fuse Master Super Spray. It says to fire between 1300 and 1700 F. The glass is Bullseye 90, and the pieces were a set of coasters and some cabochons. I was doing a fire polish and the schedule I used specified a processing temp of 1350 F for 10 minutes. This was done on ...

Devit solution left stains on bottom of piece!

Hi All I have used a devitrification solution for the first time. I brushed in on a piece around ground edges and then over the top. When it had dried I placed it on a shelf and fired. After fusing it all looked great until I turned the piece over. Some solution had seeped under the piece and this h...

If I cut a shape from fibreboard and use it to slump a plate, can I just put Bullseye paper under it to slump onto, or must I slump onto a prepared shelf?

Re: Using a tile saw chips glass. Is this normal?

Thanks everyone for the info. Sad thing for me is I am in Australia and I can't find anybody that sells those brands, though I am sure there are equivalent brands.
