(like the tip on heating them to knock of the edges) Phil Hi Phil... In my experience with kids during the past year, they've required fewer bandaids than yours truly. I didn't pre-fire elements, unless they required it (ie, pre-fused bits like murini or whatever). I was surprised how careful they ...

The point of Appropriation is to create new work through borrowing a pre-existing image from another context and combining it with new ones and is utilized as a vehicle for stating viewpoints on current culture by gleening from other works or traditions. Goes hand in glove with Conceptual Art, wher...

Dont forget that Bullseye Fusing Compatible glass has been around for far longer than the others. As it has more 'history' it is bound to have more records. Probably as time moves on more info about the other makes of fusing specific glass will be recorded. Good point, Elizabeth. I think Bullseye s...

Thanks lauri.

Interesting how there are lists of which specific Bullseye colors react with which other Bullseye colors, but not for the other manufacturers' colorsl. I figured people using other glasses would be just as precise. Oh well...

People ask me why I would want to teach sink making. "Won't it create more competition for you?" My attitude is that the more glass sinks that the public sees, the more likely said public will go looking for one to buy. I am pretty confident that mine will be interesting to look at and I'm likely t...

Hey Doug, just had to say how cool that is about Chihuli getting to be in a show with you. Anyways, as usual, your work inspires me. Pretty enamored with the more conceptual pieces as well. Enough for now, i guess we'll talk more tomorrow for lunch. (mmmm barbequed jargon for lunch mmmmmmm....) Barb...

BIG FUN Barbo. The curtain looks really cool. I bet the kids where wowed by bending glass in to napkin holders. I imagine the experience was inspirational. Thanks Bert. The kids really get into the glass stuff... They have to turn kids away at registration, I'm told. By the way, this was my first f...

Hi Phil.
Surely you don't mean you're teaching 105 kids -- all at once????? If so you're a brave man.

Kids' work.

For the past year I taught a fusing class to elementary & middle-schoolers at Robert Gray School here in Portland. Here are some examples of their work. Tip o' the hat to Bettina Eberle's book for a couple of the project ideas. http://www.pbase.com/pdxbarbara/barbos_glass (Click on the pic labeled C...

As far as I can see (specs on, yep), the only reason for more than one hotbox is if you require a deeper crucible. It's easy to recharge your flowerpot, though, so I see no point. I believe that Bullseye sells a setup that they've labeled a vitrograph kiln. Pricey & not necessary. Any small kiln wit...
