Re: Fish Panel 3D

What a fun project! I'd say you did a very good job, especially with your glue, which I can't detect even in your close up photos.

Re: Square/Squareup Credit Card processing

Terry, you can continue to use Square, just hand-entering the numbers, which will be uploaded later when you have service, I believe.
The downside is that you don't get instant authorization but you won't have that with a knuckle buster either.

Re: powders-good studio practice-avoiding contamination

I have the enamel sifters and like them, but for large fields of powder, I LOVE my Japanese sifter. All is says on it is Made in Japan. I wish I would've bought several when I paid a buck for this one but I'll continue looking in my travels. Here, you can see it sitting in the jar lid:

Nina Falk's "Inner Life of Trees"

This photo's been a bit lost in Nina's table thread, so in case you missed it, here's her new tree sculpture:

Looks great, Nina! But I think you should spread your arms up and out to match the shape of your tree. 8)

Ditto and ditto! I love the expression on Gita's face! Whenever I see your work, I marvel that we're even using the same materials...

Re: capping with coarse frit to reduce bubbles

Try the technique I heard about from Steve Klein: put your first layer down, then sift a very fine layer of clear powder evenly over it, then cap and fire with your bubble squeeze program.

[edited to reflect Steve's method, which uses powder, not fine frit as I originally stated.]

Nina, she's making her own vitrograph canes and then cutting them into murrini. At least that's my guess.

Re: Why do kiln shelves break?

I've had a shelf break when I was fusing a thicker piece.

Bullseye's shelves are great; I know Kim Treloar could order you some.

Re: Door insert thickness?

I'm sure others with architectural-installation experience will reply, but my front door has a leaded glass insert and it's only single thickness. It's the fairly common kind, where nearly half of the top of the door is glass. I can't imagine why you'd had to make your insert so thick.

Re: powders-good studio practice-avoiding contamination

I've only got a few strainers of different sizes, along with an old toddler-sized spoon I use for scooping. I scoop with the spoon, then tap it smartly against my drafting table's edge to remove most of the powder, then wipe it with a designated cloth, which I change frequently. Never thought of dip...

I beveled the corners on some thicker pieces I made last year because my design elements needed to be seamless:

Re: Tekta and Fiber Paper

I've all but eliminated using Thinfire because of the scummy haze on Tekta, and have seen improvements. My issues only started with my Tekta use. Bullseye continues to blame cleaning techniques but I don't have the problem with any glass besides Tekta, and I clean all my glass in the same manner. I'...

If there are opal areas to mask them, aluminum Panel Clips are great. They're also called French Cleats, I believe.
