Re: Best Wet Band Sander

I tried quite a few WBS before I decided on a Covington. I've found that now I have it, I use it all the time. Very versatile tool and well worth the money. Here is a link to HIS and the one that I purchased http://www.hisglassworks.com/cart/Covington_760_Wet_Belt_Sander_p154.html#.U8464Y1dW-8. They...

Re: Setting up a Sandblaster - Compressor Size

UPDATE- Well, got everything set up and it's working great! Thanks so much for the input and advice from everyone. I just wanted to let you know what equipment I ended up with, and is working for my situation. I went with the HF large blasting cabinet (quite a pain to put together, but the price sur...

Re: Setting up a Sandblaster - Compressor Size

That's what happened to me, Valerie. I was going to order one online but wanted to see it in person first to get an idea of how it would fit in my studio. When I went to the store, I was shocked at how big the 33 gallon size was! HUGE! Between the SB cabinet, dust collector (shop vac) and the compre...

Re: Setting up a Sandblaster - Compressor Size

I didn't realize the oil-less compressors were that much louder. Do the ones that require oil need much maintenance? I really don't think I'll be using it that often (maybe once or twice a week, for 15-20 minutes). I would sure like to get away with a small QUIET one, if at all possible. Thanks for ...

Setting up a Sandblaster - Compressor Size

I plan on doing just basic clean-up of glass with my sandblaster. No heavy duty etching or carving. Space is a real concern in my studio. I have the HF 40 lb. syphon cabinet, but am curious about the size of the compressor I can get away with. I see the 33 gallon from Sears http://www.sears.com/craf...

Purple Splotch

I slumped this piece on a ss mold coated with MR95. It came out with what looked like 'pock marks' on the bottom, so I cold worked bottom by hand with diamond pads, used the wet belt sander on the edges and re-fired to firepolish. I put a piece of thinfire on the ss mold instead of firing directly o...

Re: Damming Flip and Fire

Okay, here's the piece that I want to flip and fire. Came out of the kiln this morn. Edges need to be worked on the WBS, but I'm leaning towards NOT capping with clear...

Re: Damming Flip and Fire

I did not get a chance to fire it today. Probably a good thing. I really don't need to clear cap it to hide anything; I just wanted to give it a more substantial presence. Not really necessary. I actually ended up making it kinda narrow and oblong. I'm quite pleased with the piece so far. I'm leanin...

Re: Damming Flip and Fire

Thanks so much everyone! This is done in only two firings. I guess I didn't make myself clear enough. I arrange the pattern bars, etc., on the kiln shelf and have an entire 3mm design layer.Cap that with clear. Fire. I now have a fully fused 6mm piece that I want to have the nice, crisp design layer...

Damming Flip and Fire

I have a round piece that I'm getting ready to fire that has pattern bar inclusions. I have arranged them on the kiln shelf and capped the design with clear so the total thickness is now 6mm. I'll full fuse. I want to f and f to get the nice crisp lines, but like the look of a clear cap on something...

Re: Tile Saw Trouble

Well, I looked everywhere. No place to adjust table. It's a pretty cheap tile saw, but it works ;). I'm going to use it till it dies! More pattern bars to cut tomorrow, so I think I'll trim up an old kiln shelf like Brad suggested. Hopefully that will work for the time being. Thanks for the help and...

Re: Tile Saw Trouble

Ahhh! Very clever! Thanks a bunch. I think even I can do that. Looks like it should do the trick.

When you mention that there 'should be an adjustment', you mean for the table, right? Not the fence. I can't find one for the table. I do, of course, have one for the fence.

Tile Saw Trouble

Help! I use my tile saw all the time for pattern bars, and the feed table is no longer true. My bars are thicker at one end than the other and I can't for the life of me seem to do anything to get them even. The table is not adjustable, and I really am not in a position right now to purchase a new s...

Re: Devit & Vermiculite observation

I had also never had a problem with devit UNTIL I used Tekta with Thinfire. It wasn't always, which fooled me for quite a while, but I eventually figured it out. The only time I do have a problem, it when the two are combined.

Re: Firepolish after slump?

The firepolish/slump worked great. I did watch it carefully. I can see how it would NOT work in a steep bowl mold or some other shapes. It really does depend on the mold. Tried to upload a photo, but I can't seem to get it to upload. Never used to have trouble with that...
