Re: My first big break! But not the good kind. What happened

This was the first time I tried the top elements in my new kiln. It was the biggest piece I have tried in it. Working larger is new to me. My thinking was that the top elements would heat it more evenly given the fissure situation. It definitely makes more sense to keep the first ramp at or below th...

Re: My first big break! But not the good kind. What happened

The piece it 12 x 12...It has a clear base, with a thin white layer with fritty details. First firing 100 900 15 9999 1400 5 9999 950 30 (Probably not long enough, but my logic was it would need a second firing anyways and I would anneal longer then. Oops!) 50 800 100 700 300 100 Second firing (Adde...

My first big break! But not the good kind. What happened?

My thinking is that I may have gone too fast on the way up @ 150/hr to 1000. This was a third firing and it was the first time I tried using the top elements on my new kiln. Incidentally, after the second firing on this piece, I had some small stress fractures starting in the center through the clea...

Re: Assistance with color options....

Thank you Lynn...I definitely see what you are saying. I have felt a pull in that direction over time. I'm not quite ready to jump over...It's more affordable to stay put, while I am still learning and experimenting. Kevin...That is interesting to know! I'll definitely explore that option further. B...

Re: Copyright 101

Question, though: Are you trying to protect the photographs you've taken, the art you make with them, or the fact that you're using them to make art in a certain way? I think photography is what primarily prompted the line of questioning in my mind. But the line of questioning doesn't end there. It...

Re: Two quick questions about Mason Stains

Has anyone had experience using Alpine Rose colored mason stains? I found this website as I am exploring if there is any small chance I can experiment with ceramic glazes to get the color I am looking for... http://www.theceramicshop.com/store/dep ... on-Stains/

Re: Assistance with color options....

It would really be most helpful to see images of glass projects that have used any of those brands/enamel colors before I would splurge on the product(s). I have definitely been checking out those product lines you mention Cate. Thank you. I'll keep looking... Does anyone have images of BE projects ...

I am SO appreciative you took the time to share your experience and insight on this subject. It has been beyond helpful. Thank YOU! Of course it makes total sense to me now that you have explained it so clearly...We register our cars, our canoes, etc...It stands to reason that one should register th...

Copyright 101

Copyright infringement is a subject that enters my mind more and more. I have felt an absolute conviction to work from my own photos and sketches. Things I wonder about (as a relative newbie) are: Are there any precautionary things that can be done to protect my photos/images/artwork? Should I be mo...

Re: Assistance with color options....

The Higuchi's blow me away. Simply WOW! As time permits I will definitely study up on their amazing work. Thank you for that suggestion Kevin. I think what is probably going to have to happen is that I focus on using mixed-media techniques for the flower to get those colors right on. I thought about...

Re: Assistance with color options....

It's an altered image using Photoshop Elements from a photo I took this week in a friends garden. I just got a new camera and have been discovering all it's wonderful features....but I am most excited about how to best use it as a tool in my glasswork. I have some other ideas about how I could make ...

Assistance with color options....

I know this is going to be an ambitious project for me, but I am really interested in translating my original image to glass. I have attached a scaled down version of the image to make it fit on this post. The first hurdle in my mind right now is going to be in the color selection. I work with prima...
