I live in NY city and it was scarey for me when my COBRA was expiring. Fortunately, NY State offers, "Healthy NY" a way for small business owners and individuals to get affordable, basic healthcare. I think I pay $167 a month with a $20 copay (very cheap for this area). For $20 more a mont...

I have had a lot of trouble with wire that is too curly. I mean, I have created elaborate patterns in fine silver (fairly thin gauge wire) and the glass doesn't seem like a lot of curves going in different directions (e.g., S shapes). I have tried annealing the wire, pickling and cleaning very well ...

First off, thank you so much for sharing.

My usual question (because I live in a Manhattan apt and do my fusing in my living room). Does it smoke when it burns? Is there an issue with burning wax? Wax, I thought, is very ignitible.

Regards,

Melissa

Why is GlassExpo Northeast in my PDA

I can't figure out why I put the GlassExpo Northeast in my PDA. It's coming up this weekend and I have no idea why I thought I should mark the date. Has anyone been? Any verdicts? It's 11PM on Saturday (EST). I'm waiting for SNL to come on, so I thought I would pose this question. Thanks, Melissa

It was 2 1/2 years ago for me that I left my lucrative job in advertising to become a glass artist and jewelry designer. I altered my life to accomodate the smaller income. I rent out a room in my 2 bedroom Manhattan apt.. I no longer get to enjoy some of the best restaurants in the world and I have...

New Adhesive

I just received my Rainbow Glass monthly promotion. They are offering an adhesive called Safe2bond. They claim that it is great for glass to glass, glass to mirror leaving an optically clear result. It uses a white light source (i.e., flashlight) rather than UV to cure. Anyone have any experience wi...

thanks Brock and Kim.

Brock, nothing has changed at Urban, but they did let me use the credit towards their coldworking club. I expect it'll be fairly uncomfortable there soon. If you think that place is bad in winter, you should try it in summer. Heat like they only know in Hell.

If you're using wood to make your holes and you're venting at around 1000, when the wood burns out does it smoke?

Why do I need to vent? I don't use any powders, fiber paper or thin fire or paints. I only use kiln wash, Elmer's glue and sometimes a dab of 3 in 1 oil. Please let me know if there is something else to consider.

Thanks,

Melissa

regarding the hi-fire wire. Are you saying that the wire burns out? If that's true, is it toxic because I fire in my home. Is there any other info for a first timer (with wire that is).

ah, now I can see it. Very nice.

can you belt sand up to 400 and then take it to pumice and lastly cerium oxide. I polish up pattern bar pieces that way because I don't use glaze.
