Re: Spoon Rests

Mike. I would suggest that you do give John a try. He is really good with glass I would suggest that you go to his shop on NE Lincoln instead of phone or email as he doesn't respond to either to well. Maybe because he is to busy. Good guy and fair pricing. He also stacks and cuts. Jim Mike [/quote]...

Re: Spoon Rests

Cheryl, I agree with you about the amazement of what people will buy for their pets. :D The first thing I bought my wife before we were married was a fridge magnet that said "Sleep with me, sleep with my dog". I won't elaborate on all of the dog things (mostly for the breed we have, Bouvie...

Re: I need water in my studio

If you get a sump pump (they come in various sizes and flow rates) and set it in the bucket on a platform that is high enough to keep it off of the solids once they have settled (you can also put a screen on the intake), connect a hose to it and run it to your regular drain, out the door or through ...

Re: Buying Taurus 3 - which extra blades should I get?

I've had the Taurus 3 for several years now and believe the slicer blade is all but useless for slicing bars since most bars are going to be 1/4" thick or thicker and though it will cut thicker than 1/4" thick glass, you won't want to do it very often. The only time I broke a blade was aft...

Re: Joining up stringers

If you have a Dermal tool and a fine cutting disk, you could also use a straight edge and cut a groove from corner to corner to lay your stringers in. that way they won't roll and depending on how deep you make it, they would not stick up as much. I've also used a grinder and grinded a flat bottom o...

Re: How to make sharp lines

It looks like this is going to be prone to create bubbles no matter what you do, since edges are going to seal around all that air space you have because of the black pieces. A couple of things I can think to try if I was doing this (and I'm no expert at all) is instead of a solid clear cap, use str...

Re: Spoon Rests

Here are two more Rests I did with a new mold I received yesterday. I like how it puts the lip on the tile. I have two more paw tiles left and then I'll either have to make some more or come up with something new. If I was to make some more of these I think I'd check to see what the cost would be to...

Re: Spoon Rests

I would love to have something I could call my own, but there are way to many paw themes out there that I wouldn't even try. Besides, I'll bet you there are at least 8 people that saw these that already have their kiln full of them. :D Thanks though. I do appreciate the comments. Cheryl, yes, they d...

Re: Spoon Rests

Thanks, everyone. Back when I originally did the tiles I did do a bunch of them. I had thought of using them for coasters but a glass sitting on top slid around to much. I had thought of doing a curve of some kind but didn't have a mold at the time and I was using my thicker fiber paper for other th...

Spoon Rests

Here are a few of the things I've been working on recently, spoon rests. I did the round ones first and then used the same slumping mold to do the square ones. I'd done the paw print tiles a while back and decided to try slumping a couple of them in the same slumping mold. They can be used for spoon...

Re: What magnet to put on fridge mags?

I did order a number of different size magnets to try and I found all of them to be to strong to be simple fridge magnets. If I wanted to hold a ream of paper or all the junk mail I get, they would be great. Or if I want making fridge magnets the size of dinner plates. :D A half inch across by a qua...

Re: What magnet to put on fridge mags?

Thanks for the info, Barb. Yea, I think the tiny ones are too tiny as well. I was looking at the ones about a 1/2" across and about 1/16th thick. Thanks for the tip on glue. I'd hate to put the magnets on and then have them pop off the first time they are pulled from the fridge. :D

What magnet to put on fridge mags?

Back a few years ago it was discussed on what and were to get magnets to put on the back of the distributed magless creations. I did a search but the thread didn't come up (probably lost with a lot of others) under magnets. I've been doing some FreezeNFuse things from ice cube molds and want to turn...

Spoon Rests

I've been working on making spoon rests and these were done this weekend. I used the round slumping mold to slump the square one although I had to put blocks at the corners to keep them from slumping down and locking to the mold. The others I've done are like the yellow one but in different colors. ...

Re: how to support glass for this mold?

If you are looking for the original shape, do some googling for banana split bowls or ice cream boats. Most are glass but there are a number of different shapes in stainless steel and some in china and ceramic that might be able to take the heat of slumping into. There are some shapes that are like ...

Re: Light box for display

Have you thought about making your own? All you need is a box, frosted white glass or frosted white plexiglass and several florescent tubes. Or if you know someone that is handy with working with tools and wood, it wouldn't take much to make one and then sanding and staining or painting it the color...

Re: Drilling or Adding copper wire???

Do you tune your glass for the wind chimes? I started working on making a glass xylophone and as I got into finding out information about how the different bars are made to get the correct tone and pitch I found out quit a bit about how to "tune" them which also covered wind chimes. I sinc...

Re: casting a stepping stone

If they don't care what glass it's made out of, you could use a sheet of tempered glass, break it into chunks and then fuse the chunks together inside of a stainless steel ring or even a sand mold if you want an odd shape. I've made several 3/4" thick by 14" across disks using a bunch of 3...

Re: Lettering

I've done a bunch of research on screen printing and even bought the kits that Barry Kaiser sells to do screen printing. I did not get anything useful out of the supplied pre-coated screens (completely my limitations and fault and not any fault of Barry's kit) although I did get one screen that actu...
