Maybe the use of Less cmc can help.
cmc sometimes is the reason for a look of kind grey/not clean colour.

I don’t know if there is another glass artist that succeeded to create chili hot pepper by using pate de verre technique. sorry to hear about your kiln..
my colleague here had similar problem with her kiln.
she also made experiments reaching 1700 f .
the kiln manufacturer told her that she pushed the limits of the kiln and because of it it made the relay more vulnerable.
