Re: Can you clean glass jewelry in an ultrasonic cleaner?
Lynn, after your post I did more research, and from what I have read, an ultrasonic cleaner will not remove tarnish after all. :-( Some people say that putting a cleaner in the water helps, but the general consensus is that since tarnish is a chemical reaction, not dirt, it will not work very well. ...

Re: Can you clean glass jewelry in an ultrasonic cleaner?
No. I'm using blue Goop. Will report back--I still have to buy the ultrasonic cleaner. I didn't want to buy it if it wouldn't work.

Re: Can you clean glass jewelry in an ultrasonic cleaner?
Thanks, Brad and Morganica. I have worn my glued pieces in the shower or pool with no problem, so I don't think the glue is affected by water per se. It's the ultrasonic waves I wasn't sure about. I will try a test piece about the glue now that I know the glass itself won't be harmed. Thanks! --jodi

Can you clean glass jewelry in an ultrasonic cleaner?
Is there any reason I shouldn't put my pieces in an ultrasonic cleaner? I want to clean the sterling bails without taking them off the pieces and don't want to do them all by hand. Most of my pieces are drilled, but what about those that are glued? Will the glue get screwed up by the ultrasonic? Any...

Re: Tile saws for cutting glass
A blade called the Hot Dog Blade was recommended to me for use in a cheaper tile saw to cut dichroic, etc. I haven't bought my tile saw yet, so no reviews though.

Glastar grinding heads--are they worth the extra $?
I have a Glastar All Star Grinder. I still have the bit that came with the grinder years ago. I would like to get a coarse bit and a fine bit, and replace my standard bit. However, there seem to be two kinds of grinder heads--the cheaper Twofers or Gel bits, and the much more expensive (like 4 times...

Re: Gray scum
Thank you, Cynthia, for the advice. I am thinking it was probably devit too. I took off the second wave of scum by sanding and fired again to 1330. I also vacuumed my kiln and cleaned the piece with alcohol after sanding. This time no more scum showed up. Don't know if that was luck or something I d...

Re: Gray scum
I used thinfire for the initial firing of the pink glass, but not for all subsequent firings, so I don't think it's that. I grind my pieces then put them immediately in a vinegar bath. Then I scrub once with the vinegar, and once with clean water to get the vinegar off. I use a toothbrush to scrub. ...

Gray scum
I have been making a jewelry piece for a customer that has a white (wissimach white) flower on a pink (bullseye petal pink opal) background. I fused the background separately with no problem and then tack fused the flower with the following schedule: AFAP ---> 1050 10 100 ---> 1250 10 AFAP ---> 1400...

Re: Rectify dog boned coasters as too thin
You could try cutting the first set apart with your glass cutter or a saw, then grind all the edges to make sure they are square and any bleed from one to another is gone. The coasters might get slightly smaller but they can be salvaged. I have done this successfully with jewelry pieces that fused t...

Re: Spray A separated, how to fix?
Aha! I was wondering if I could put it in the microwave--that's what I do with my kiln wash when it separates. Thanks everyone for the advice!

Spray A separated, how to fix?
I have had a bottle of Spray A for a few years--I never get devit now that I stopped fire polishing on thinfire, so I have never used it. Recently I took a class where we were told that we should use Spray A when doing a certain technique because dark colors had a tendency to devit, so I wanted to g...
