Drop Vessel on Flat Lap

What is the best way to hold/secure a drop bowl while grinding and polishing the rim flat on a lap? I'm afraid it's going to fly out of my hands. I've put so much work into it I really don't want to end up plastering it on the wall. Sure would appreciate some suggestions.

Re: Liquid Stringer vs. Glassline

Kevin,
Thanks for your wonderful explanation/comparison. If I do go with the glassline (and get that massage thingy) it could always be useful after hours of leaning over putting together strip plates!

Liquid Stringer vs. Glassline

I can't seem to find any info on the difference between liquid stringer and glassline paint. Can someone please enlighten me? Many thanks!

Re: Full Sheet of Dichro

I contacted Lisa Vogt as I know that she uses completely round dichro in her her sinks. She told me she uses CBS dichro, and suggested I give them another call. I did, and they were very accommodating. Perhaps when I called CBS the first time, someone was just having a bad day...no worries! I have m...

Re: Full Sheet of Dichro

Oops, I meant 96. Typo. I called CBS a few days ago and was told that all the sheets they sold had the flat sides. Either I was given the wrong info from them, or they misunderstood my question. I'll call again. Thanks

Full Sheet of Dichro

Hello to All, I have a commission for a sink that calls for an entire sheet of 98 dichro. All the full sheets of dichro that I see have flat sides that are only 17" across. I KNOW that round sheets exist, as I have seen them in tutorials, etc. I need an 18 - 18 1/2" circle so the flat side...

I was just catching up on posts, and I saw your sculpture Tom...WOW! Fabulous! Is the middle piece that looks frosted cast?

Re: Water drip system

I use the Loc-lines as well. They are super! Attached to a garden hose as Cynthia said, and then I just attach to my saw (grinder, etc.) with zip ties.

Re: 10" Wet Tile Saw

I just saw this post. Love my HF saw, but have the same problem with the wide blade channel. How do you get the plexi glass to stay in place? Could you post a photo? Thanks!! PS: can't say enough about using a great blade; my choice is the Results blade from HIS. Cuts glass like butter!

Hanging Panels

I know this has been asked before, but I can't seem to find the answer in the archives. I need another nice way to hang a group of panels (each about 4 1/2" x 16"). I really love HYG, but it gets so cost prohibitive even at wholesale prices. I've never used french cleats - any advice on th...

Re: Frit Dust

My Mistake!! I have always called it a 'surgical mask'. It's a particulate mask - a P100 to be exact. I use it to scrape kiln wash and to do all the nasty, dusty things in my studio. I HAVE been using it to grind and sort my frit. I was just surprised to see this post that calls glass dust 'nuisance...

Re: Frit Dust

Ahh! Just saw this old post! Glass dust is not especially dangerous. It is considered to be a nuisance dust by OSHA. Glass dust is not silica, it is a non-crystalline silicate and does not cause silicosis. See my web site for more information. Use your ShopVac to clean up the mess. http://www.gregor...

Frit Dust

I usually make my own frit, unless I need large quantities. I've always used a coffee grinder and sifters and it just works great! I have to have my glass and supplies shipped to me, so with the weight of frit, it's much more economical for me to make my own from scrap. I wear a surgical mask when I...

That was very interesting. Thanks so much for posting! I've promised myself I will not get into casting (not enough studio space, $$, etc.) but every time I see a tutorial or video, I'm so intrigued!

Thanks. I've been using a razor. If anyone knows the name of the solvent, I would appreciate it. I have a few stubborn smudges that are difficult to razor off. Ugh.

Removing unwanted GE Silicone II

How can I remove silicone that has seeped from where it was supposed be? Also, I seem to have a drop or two on the project that I couldn't see (clear silicone on clear glass). What is the best way to remove unwanted silicone?

Re: Sandblasting Pattern Bar Slices

This is very interesting to me. I always thought that the edges that were in contact with the tile saw were the most likely to be prone to devitrification... Les, you're saying you grind the sides that touch the mold and kiln shelf (I do too), but just scrub the tile saw edges, correct? Your pattern...
