Re: Mounting glass to aluminum
gluing the copper foil to the aluminum and screwing through the aluminum into a standoff that you in turn glue the glass to. Tony That's my plan (I'm not communicating well). So... I am just wondering if the hang-your-glass standoffs are the appropriate stand-off for this application. It's not real...

Re: Mounting glass to aluminum
Tony -- I did just take a look at sculpt.com (after I shot off my reply), and that looks like a route I might want to explore in the future. For this project, the client has already chosen the patina finish they want, and I think I would be hard-pressed to replicate it with their metal-coating produ...

Re: Mounting glass to aluminum
My suggestion would be to look up metal coatings at http://sculpt.com for your copper-on-aluminum solution and then use French cleats to support your panels http://www.panelclip.com Tony Those are the two things I have worked out :) My question is what the best way to adhere the glass to the copper...

Mounting glass to aluminum
I have a commission for a glass piece that I think I will mount on 16 gage aluminum. The glass needs to stand off from the background, and the design is in multiple pieces, not one big piece. The request is for an abstract bison that is made of multiple segments, mounted on patinaed copper. So my th...

Re: Mandala Class, Richard La Londe
You're welcome.
Whidbey Island is really beautiful. I arrived a day and a half early and drove all over, and got some beach walking and hiking in. I'm not certain I could live in the Pacific NW (I like sunshine too much ), but it's a lovely contrast to Utah's high mountain desert.

Mandala Class, Richard La Londe
I recently had a chance to visit Richard La Londe's studio on Whidbey Island for a mandala class. Here is a blog post about the experience if you are interested. "A great time was had by all" http://jestersbaubles.blogspot.com/2016/09/mandala-and-cave-painting-workshop-with_27.ht...

Re: Sale of Spectrum
Huh... Boyce's nephew. That is a new twist I had not heard. When I read the announcement several days ago, I thought of it as a "good news/bad news" scenario. I'm happy the Spectrum line will continue. I hate to see jobs leave the states, but at least it is a US company. Hopefully quality ...

Re: Wissmach colours
They have a medium-colored purple opal, it's named "Violet". The sample on the web site, at least on my computer, looks grey, but it's a medium lilac color.

Re: Silver Foil
The hobby stores typically only sell real copper, everything else is aluminum.
Just about any art glass supplier will have silver foil. Amazon has pure silver foil, too.

I talked with the Glassline folks a couple of years ago at the Glass Expo. They say to just add some water, let it sit overnight, and then "shake vigorously".

Re: Wellspring
I didn't care for the green one's glass color much. Just personal taste. The blue one appeals to me. Did they like it? I'd guess they did. It's a charming piece. Yes, they loved it. One of the guys was not there for our initial discussions and he did not see the green bowl I took in. He kept saying...

Re: Wellspring
The commissioned baptismal bowl is finished. I am meeting with the pastor of the church tomorrow to drop it off. I really stressed over the initial ramp rate for the final slump. I had several factors to consider, including overall size, proximity to the walls of the kiln (and also, the bottom heati...

Re: How to adhere stand up project to a glass base
Depends upon the shape of the glass you are gluing to the base. If it has some means of support in its inherent design, you could use something as simple as E6000. I recently wrote a blog post on a candle shield, that might be helpful: http://jestersbaubles.blogspot.com/2016/05/hand-painted-fused-gl...

Re: Kokomo for fusing?
Terry- That's a tall order. Does Kokomo date their batches and number their sheets? Do they do any testing? Are they interested in testing for compat.? We'd be working in the dark unless they started formulating for fusing and keeping track of their stock. The information on FB indicated they are w...

Re: Straight lines
My 2 cents. The glass facing the shelf will stay the way you made it, It does what you tell it to do. The glass facing the inside of the kiln will do what it wants to. As different colors melt at slightly different temperatures the glass "moves" as it melts. One color moving over another ...

Re: Kokomo for fusing?
I apologize for thinking that there might be alternatives for 96 COE users. I didn't understand that Bullseye "believers" would be quite so intolerant of other alternatives. I have a lot of 96 glass that I would like to use and do not plan on switching to Bullseye in the near future if I ...
