If it's the "Information courtesy of Mary Kay Nichie", I have that, but it's incomplete. There's no date on it, so I don't know if it's the most recent. I'll contact BE tomorrow. Just hoping that a list had been published on the web somewhere. Still curious about Spectrum color reactivity...

Hi Ruth,

The biggest challenge I believe you'll face is that buying art is often an emotional thing -- and speaking to the creator connects the buyer to the art and enhances the experience.

I also carve before I fire.

The board is softer then -- it gets a bit more brittle after it has been fired.

The stuff is incredibly dusty -- wear a mask!

Re: Wanting high gloss finish top and bottom

In the end I think interesting texture is way better than glossy. I enthusiastically second this. I've only recently started experimenting with "texturizing" the glass's surface. It adds an entire other dimension to the medium -- possibilities are as endless as with color and form. Lately...

Re: dichroic glass

As a beginner, I am somewhat amazed at the different patterns being produced on dichroic glass. While I understand the basic principal of how it's done, can someone explain to me how they get the patterns on the glass with the different colors, ect? Steve -- there are two ways you can get dichroic p...

Ceramaguard strips make great dams and, as best as I can tell, last just about forever if you treat them gently. You can cut it square with a table saw -- just don't do it inside -- it is inconievable dusty. They do require kiln furniture/bricks for support. - Paul Paul, do you use kilnwash on them...

Re: vermiculite board as dams

Since the now-famous V board can be used to build casting boxes, is there any (good) reason not to use them as dams? It's hard for me to find mullite shelves that are rectangular or square and long enough (20 plus inches) locally to make dams, anyway. I'd use them with fiberpaper assuming they can'...

Top layer curls on the deep and the dammed

I fused 4 3mm layers together at the same time I kiln-carved the bottom. The edges of the top layer "stuck" to the fiber paper that lined the dam. http://www.izm.com/misc/edge.jpg This isn't the first time this has happened to me. I can fix it but would appreciate thoughts on how to avoid ...

Re: another tile saw question

That's one serious saw Paul. I think they use those for cutting Marble and Granite wall panels. I agree that having a travelling saw is appealing. Other than space, I'm not sure what the downside would be. Tony http://constructioncomplete.com/Tile-Saws-21in36in-Cutting/QEP-83200.html Only $320. See...

Don't know. Laser/copier toner is "fused" to the paper with heat -- which is why the iron works there. Inkjet doesn't use heat.

Transferring Designs to Fiber Paper

For anyone who does fiber paper kiln carving, here's a trick that may be of use. Print the mirror image of your design on a laser printer. You can do this by flipping the image in your software or, for some printers, telling the printer to print mirror image. You can then transfer the image to the f...
