Re: Display panels for show

I built walls for my booth that consisted of white-painted wood, in sections. Each section is 5' across, and about 6' high - fit into a pickup, and not too heavy. Framed out in the top half and bottom half of each section are two "boxes" for displaying glass. I hang some shear fabric behin...

Re: Mold depth vs Glass size

Not a new fuser, but definitely a new slumper!! Thanks for good advice! My square candle dish mold I've pretty much perfected. I decided to get something round just for some variety, and deeper because I wanted to start to give myself more challenges/opportunities to learn. I think as you said I wil...

Re: Super Glue Follow-up

Thanks for the follow up! Lesson learned.

I once mistakenly put a piece into the kiln with E6000 on it. That was not pretty. At least, I could see that it was not pretty once the smoke cleared!!!

Mold depth vs Glass size

Is there any calculation that will tell me how big to make a piece of glass to fit in a mold? I have a mold on its way to me, 9.125" circle, probably 1.5" - 2" deep in the center. It looks like there's a half inch flat rim around it. How big around should my fused piece be to slump in...

Re: Donating your work to auctions

Many schools in my area have mini "arts/crafts fairs" and they ask for a donation for auction in addition to their (very low!) table fee. I don't mind these at all - normally people lose the auction and come to my table to buy one of whatever I donated. I've sent a few pieces to charities,...

Re: Attaching findings to pendants

It can be stringy. I use the "toothpick and twirl" method. Works just fine for me - no waste, and I can control by sight the amount I want.

Re: Introduction, and pot melt question

The recommendation that you line the ring with fibre paper remains valid whether stainless or ceramic. It is probable that your high top temperature was too great for the kiln wash. The crazing that you have is typical of glass sticking to the shelf. Bullseye kiln wash seems to perform better than ...

Re: Introduction, and pot melt question

a few things 1700 is just too hot. It will always cause problems with kiln wash sticking. Thanks! What temperature would you suggest? If the ring you used is stainless steel.. Nope, I used a ceramic ring. Would a stainless ring work better? How come? Not knowing the thickness of the melt I always a...

Introduction, and pot melt question

Hello everyone! I'm a long-time lurker! I've found the advice on this forum invaluable, and thank you all for sharing your knowledge. My Mother was a glass artist all her life (along with paint: acrylic, oil, and watercolors) and while she gave me lessons, I never really did much on my own. When she...
