Go easy with the sandblasting if you do it...maybe an etching cream would work better...
Good luck!

I've also put too much SuperSpray on pieces a few times. It leaves a whitish residue in areas when fired. What I've done to remove it is to use my flexshaft tool with a tapered diamond bit and lightly ground off the whitish areas where it was over-applied. Then I fire the piece to a full fuse again ...

For my inventory spreadsheet (I have lots of others for different things), the first column is a inventory number. I use 3 part numbers. The second column is a description of the piece. The third column is the cost of direct materials. The 4th column is the overhead materials cost. The next column i...

Short in Grinder On/Off Switch (I think)
This morning I was using my GlaStar grinder and the on/off switch didn't seem to want to turn it on. After several tries, eventually it did come on and I started smelling am electrical burning shortout smell. I turned it off for a few minutes and then tried it again and could hear some shorting out ...

A few years ago, after I read Gil Reynold's article some time ago about his squeeze technique for preventing bubbles with Spectrum, I did a little experimentation on my own with BE glass. Here's the final results... In my kiln, the fastest I ramp is 450F per hour and that's only for cabs. Everything...

I have 2 GlaStar G-9's and a Diamond Max. One of the G-9's is over 10 years old. I had the motor in it replaced after it finally died about 5 years ago. I use for finer grinding only, with a 180 disk. I don't really use it much anymore, but it's held up great considering how old it is. I think I act...

This happened to my husband and I about 10 years ago while we were in Canada. A car rental company put a huge reserve on our account for some weird reason. Luckily, we had another card to charge whatever it was we were charging in addition to the car rental. We learned a lesson from that...LOL. Alwa...

Re: keeping holes in glass
I have drilled holes in a large red transparent glass...wanting a polka-dotted effect........bottom layer is clear. Questions...1) Will the holes close up when I fuse it and if so, how can I keep that from happening? 2) This will be slumped as a deep bowl and I would like some design to show on the...

Re: Newbie needs help with pricing
So much of pricing depends on where you're selling it, how well you're known and what part of the country you're in. Here in CA, customers do not expect to pay gallery prices at shows, in my experience. Elsewhere in the country, that may not be an issue. When you're "new" to customers, it'...

How do you get slides from a digital camera? Wow that would be wonderful to take digital photos, touch them up in Photoshop, them produce slides. thanks, sheryl Others may do this differently, but this is how we do it. I work with a photo lab that does printing and stuff for professional photograph...

Re: Ouch! Does smart business=evil artist?
Wow. Recent conversations with other artists about my patent pending process has made me question my worth as a good human being/nice artist! I'm secretly hoping for moral support here, but really, truly want honest feedback. I love creating work, but I can only continue to create if I sell it. No ...

Tough question...I don't have the answer either, except that you might find it useful to take some classes or attend some seminars. Bob Leatherbarrow gave a good one about how to photgraph glass yourself on the cheap last year at WGW. A few years ago, I spent a bundle on a professional photographer ...

Re: Honesty in Applying to Shows
Ok Sages. Here is what happened. When I apply to shows, I send in slides of unique bowls or clocks, or vases. It is all fused glass basically using the same techniques, styles etc. At shows, I rarely sell any of those beautiful pieces which are priced in the 100 - 300 range. Probably 90% of what I ...

LOL. Yes, I tried the garlic ice cream last year. Wasn't my thing. Years ago, I tried some of the garlic wine that Rapazinni sells. After having a taste of that, I wanted to go out for a big steak dinner for some reason. Heh. Were you able to try it there? Did you try the garlic chocolate? If you li...
