Re: Intro, tight budget beginner
Uh... yeah. 1) Firing on carpet is a bad idea, and cement backer board will not be enough. Rip out the carpet or fire somewhere else. 2) I love recycled glass. Get window glass and some low-fire glazes (like the stuff they sell at the Glaze-It-Yourself pottery shops) and start experimenting. 3) Once...

Re: Giving it away
Preach it brother. This is the same bullshit I hear when asked to donate for a charity. "Oh, it will give your art GREAT EXPOSURE!!!" Just recently I was asked to submit an article to an on-line glass magazine. The deadline is December. No pay. December? Really? My busiest time of the year...

Re: jewelry pricing
I don't use a case, but I do have the price under the pendant or set. If they touch it, there is a feeling of ownership.
I have a friend who is a jeweler. A case has improved his sales because the consumer assumes something in a case is of more value than something lying on a table.

The trays sound more trouble then they are worth. Look for stainless steel mixing bowls, woks, etc. at your local thrift store.

Re: Fusing glass to animal skull
Use the skull to make a plaster mold. Then, cast the glass into the mold. That would be COOL!!!

Re: Fusing glass to animal skull
Wow... that just sounds like a mess.
If the glass successfully slumped over the skull, I would be concerned the glass and skull would not be compatible and crack. You can try...

I have always appreciated your pattern bars. Lovely color/ technique/ execution.
May I ask? How thick are your slices? They appear 1/2 inch, but I have nothing to gauge perspective and am not sure. Typically, I strive for 1/8th and thinner for my slices.

I tell my customers, yes it's dishwasher safe but I would never put it in the dishwasher.

I'm sure the usual suspects would work: Rio Grande, Fire Mountain Gems, Eloxite.

A glass dome?
Well, you could make a circle, then slump it in a dome shaped mold.

A kiln sitter? No computer controller? Though I know people who do this, it seems a terrible pain in the ass.

OMG, too much drama. Use the glass as garden rocks, or... anything... Just don't bother melting it.

Re: Making channels with fiber paper
What kind of glass? If you were using float, you need to fire hotter (I fire 1525 fahrenheit). If it's a fusible glass, then you might try some wet/dry sandpaper and lightly buff the sharp edge off.

Email solicitations like that are usually scams. You send them a large order and receive a money order. You go to the bank and realize the money order is fraudulent. Then you're screwed. I get at least 2 a day.

The glass actually looks fine, but I'm skeptical. We're going to re-load the kiln for a bisque fire and I plan to put the glass back in and re-fire it. Please note: fine is a relative term for bottle glass. The transparent devitrified to the point that it looks white and not even truly fused togethe...

It is glue residue, you just can't see it. Use the products described and it will be gone. I use Windex, or the generic equivalent, and a razor blade.
