Re: Buying a used belt sander

I work on receptacles and switchs hot half of the time. Wouldn't want to do that in Australia!

Re: Silence

Thanks Janet. Yes I just found that out in another topic!! So I went in and changed a lot of stuff. I wish it was easier to delete something after you read it.

Re: Webinars

Do you know of anybody making tutorials for fused glass? I get a lot of them from lampwork artists. They are from about $15 to $35. You purchase it and download it and print it yourself. I love taking classes, but can't always afford it. I wish Bob Leatherbarrow would make one on his cracked techniq...

Re: "Dumbing down" of glass art?

But what about ones you get from other people? You know, read the post, delete it. Some I may want to save for a time, but most I would like to delete after being seen/read.

Re: "Dumbing down" of glass art?

Thanks Cynthia. I was going to ask my daughter, like I usually do  . What does highlights do? I have a niece that likes to send out inspirational messages; like 3-4 a day! Think I will see if it filters those out.

Re: Buying a used belt sander

I'm with you on that Jen. GFCI receptacles and breakers are good, but they do fail. So the outlets and switches in your home are 240 volts? Didn't know that.

Re: "Dumbing down" of glass art?

I started working with glass in 2003 or so. I take as many classes as I can afford, but without this group I wouldn't be as far along in the process as I am. I just joined FBF and think some of the work is very well done and some not. I think it will be a go to place when I have nothing better to do...

Re: Buying a used belt sander

Thanks Rick. I learned early on not to be afraid of electricity. You just have to be careful and aware of what you are doing, but that doesn't mean I haven't been zapped a time or two. I had to hook up the power on the side of a house once when it started raining. That job is always 'hot' and scary....

Re: Buying a used belt sander

Rick, I would love to see your set-up. I don't worry about electric, as my husband and I are both electricians. I just can't wrap my head around the water set-up. Do you use the silicone carbide belts? And how many do you use on a piece? I guess you grind the edge before you slump the piece? Thanks ...

I have used that in the past,Don. I haven't made anything that was so large and heavy that I was worried about it falling off the wall.

Re: Buying a used belt sander

Rick, what type of belts do you use and where do you purchase them? I have been thinking of getting something for smoothing edges, but the cost has always stopped me.

French Cleats

I saw the new video on the Bullseye site yesterday. Leslie from Twin Visions asked about where to get french cleats and the Dow 995 silicone. I found some french cleats in Home Depot, manufactured by OOK. They were in the isle with the picture hanging stuff and screws and nails and stuff. They were ...

Re: Silence

I have always liked WG and will read the forums, ask questions and give advice when I can for as long as it's here. I also read Lampworketc, and that site has gotten pitiful. Everyone is on FB, so I signed into one of the sites. And yes, now I get a whole slew of posts I'm not interested in. AND, yo...

Cool video. I wonder how long it will take before creative minds in the glass art community use it.

Re: Turning on hot head torch on cylinder

Michele, does it have to be a Hothead? My husband has a torch he used for plumbing. It's a BernzOmatic Surefire #TS8000. He uses mapp with it. You open the knob to let the gas flow, then turn a yellow button on to 'on'. Then when he needs to use it he picks it up and squeezes the yellow knob like a ...

Re: Organizing and inventory

I don't know where you live, so don't know if there are any retail or wholesale stores near you. I use mostly system 96, and get it from Rainbow Artglass in New Jersey. I also shop at Bendhiem in New Jersey. Bullseye has opened a store and resource center in one of the New York boro's. I have never ...

Good idea about the texture. I was thinking I will never get it smooth. I'm going to try it and see what happens.
Thanks,
