Re: Silberschnitt circle cutter question

I've got a few of the Silberschnitt 6-wheel circle cutters but this thread has convinced me to upgrade to the ball-bearing version.
Anyone have a good source for the best price? It's $118.50 at Bullseye.

I've got wholesale accounts with several vendors but am looking for recommendations; thanks!

Re: Circle cutting question

What kind of glass are you trying to cut? I work with beginners; folks who've never cut glass before. By the end of a couple hours' of instruction, they're all successfully cutting circles. I've got good tools for them but no magic potions or sprays. Can you elaborate on what aspect of circle cuttin...

I've been using Panel Clips for years, purchased through Brooklyn Hardware in Oregon. They're inexpensive and look like the ones in the Bullseye Catalog:

Re: Webinars

I took one once. Was frustrated that the instructor chose to answer questions during the instruction period, since with 100 'students' there were many levels of experience, so many redundant questions or questions of such a basic level that I was bored to tears. The actual instructional information ...

Re: Tack fusing frit balls

If your kiln is level, they shouldn't slide around. I don't ramp super fast so everything is flowing slowly. I use frit dots for eyeballs and tiny details and don't have trouble with them sliding around without glue.

I'd ask Tim Yardic; perhaps he'll share how he did it.

Re: silver contamination on mold

I only have very limited experience with fine silver encased between two sheets of glass. Even though the silver wasn't touching my shelf and had what I thought was plenty of glass surrounding it (therefore no fumes leaking out the edges), I still had heart shaped stains on my shelf. The silver was ...

Re: Joining up stringers

It may be an easier solution to let your strings run off the edges and then grind them off after firing, or use a tile saw to trim up the fired piece.

Re: Vitrograph Kiln set up

I use the vermiculite board that Bullseye sells with the hole pre-cut. I've also got a Caldera and have used this set up several times. One of my boards cracked down the middle but is still serviceable. It's an inch thick; perhaps yours is too thin?

I've been using the same Toyo pistol grip for about 10 years. Only bought a new one when I dropped the old one on the concrete floor.

Re: firing schedule question

The book also has firing schedules for various frit applications as well as a thick slab BE firing schedule chart that I've not seen elsewhere. Jerry, Bullseye has that thick slab chart, as well as a huge cache of other tip sheets, tech notes, etc. on their site. http://www.bullseyeglass.com/method...

Re: 2mm Clear 96

I use Bullseye's thin glass as design elements all the time. Get some powders and make yourself a bunch of patterned thin glass to cut up and use as your own custom accessory glass. Just keep the pieces about 1/2" away from edges so you don't get bulging edges.

Re: Cutting, devit spray, and other questions

Lots of people use Thinfire and love it. You can easily sell it, I'll bet. I like to kiln-carve with it. It lends itself to paper punches or easily cuts by hand. You can glue a few sheets together to get deeper carving, or layer multiple cut shapes to get more intricate designs. I don't have any iss...

Re: Cutting, devit spray, and other questions

I believe the scummy look on your clear cap is due to using kiln paper. When I started using Tekta as my clear cap, I began having the same issue, but only now and then. Realized it was when I used Thinfire. Now, only using shelf wash, the problem is eliminated. I also vent all of my kilns by leavin...

Re: Hang your Glass glue

Bob, I've been using 3M Silicone II with French cleats for a few years but not on anything larger than about 8x16". Some of my pieces have been outdoors for about 8 years without problems so far. I also really like 3M VHB (very high bond) tape, since it stays clear and bonds well. I taped some ...

Ha! I've got 10 full crates (along with a stack of overflow sheets) and do my recordkeeping the same way Don does. My full sheets are organized by color, with opals and transparents separated. I have a full case of Tekta. I've got a binder with a sheet for each crate, and everything in each crate wr...
