Re: Best deals on Paragon kilns?

Bullseye is having their kiln sale from the 24-27. Best prices I've seen on the 22.

Re: Beginner's fusing question

Maybe I'm cocky or just impatient, but I fire pieces like that in a single firing.

Re: Kiln wash turning brown and smoking?

My Bullseye wash doesn't turn color or smoke.

Are you using fiber paper (like Thinfire) over the wash? I know Thinfire turns brown before returning to white, as the binders burn off.

I've bought them from vendors on Etsy and Ebay. Don't know this vendor but did a quick Google of Mica Flakes:

Re: Advice for Dremel starter set

I've got an old Dremel (which is corded) and bought the flex-shaft attachment. The Dremel hangs out of my way (and away from water). The flex-shaft gives easier handling and performance. I buy my tiny diamond drill bits on Ebay; they're are lots of cheap sellers. For bigger holes, I buy the bits at ...

Re: Displays for shows

Cate, these are the shelf units I take for indoor and outdoor shows. This is the beginning of a set-up in my garage for an open studios event. I use pipe and drape, white table drapes (so I can stash crates of inventory under the tables) and these no-tools required glass shelving units. They're inex...

Re: DRAWING ON THE kiln-washed SHELF

Hmmm. I draw on my shelves with pencil quite often and it never survives the firing. Granted, I'm using fine mechanical pencils, but I assumed they were graphite. I also tried a technique once that I'd read about, where you draw on Thinfire with pencil, place glass on top, and full fuse. The idea wa...

If you're ramping your Caldera up on HIGH, I don't think it should take over an hour to reach 500°. I'd contact Paragon, they're most helpful.

Depending on the size you need, there are lots of round molds online. I Googled round ice molds:

Re: Practicing with wine bottles - devit problem

Carla, is your plan at some point to work with fusible glass? Sounds like you're just practicing with bottles? If so, then for all the time, attention, and detail you're putting in to your efforts, I'd suggest you take Kevin's advice and just jump in and begin working with materials that are more su...

Re: need a thin black line

I love the new .5 mm stringers from Bullseye for thin lines.

I also use Reusche enamels with clove oil, and have fired the high-fire formulas to 1500°. My tests with Paradise Paints (I have several jars of the mixed paint) show they hold up to at least 1440°.

Re: Kiln Recommendation

Most kilns (to my knowledge) have pre-programmed firing schedules, but you'll want to toss those out anyway. My larger kilns store up to 12 of my own schedules so I don't have to manually enter them each time; I've got a cheat sheet that says Program 1: slump; Program 2: single layer powder work, et...
