Re: Customers Asking for Discounts
It depends. If the person is nice and I enjoyed talking to him/her, I'll discount 20% if asked. If they're an ass, no discount.

If you can't repair it, then you can cut them into pattern bar molds.

Re: large piece glass cracking issue
Ironman55 " I have only used the spectrum glass pebbles and have not had a problem. I do think the shape was a major contributor." No dude. Mixing 90 and 96 glass - that was the major contribution to the destruction of your glass. You can't mix COE - or at least don't try it until you know...

Re: Christmas tree topper - how to attach?
Why don't you make a channel at the base of the star? After you fire, you would slide the wire into the channel and glue it in place. You could use a 2 part epoxy (like what they sell at any hardware store). That way the wire isn't weakened by the heat.

Re: pottery in glass kiln
Good point Cynthia. Glazes release gasses that will kill you. Or, if not kill then give you wonderful diseases like pancreatic cancer, lung cancer... stuff like that. Always fire pottery kilns in well ventilated places.

I fire an OLYMPIC 129FLE, interior dimensions are 11"x9"x9". Typically I fire 300 to 350 degrees per hour.

Re: pottery in glass kiln
What kind of kiln do you have? If it's a glass kiln, it won't get hot enough for the pottery glaze to mature. The pots will be UNSAFE for food use.
Also, like the others said, you will weaken the heating elements in your kiln.
Not cool.

Re: "Dumbing down" of glass art?
1) Paint-It-Yourself pottery hasn't dumbed-down the art pottery business. 2) I have most certainly received bad advice here. I'm sure we all remember the Dennis Brady years. I was told by one of Brad Walker's former students that the glass kiln he had sold me was identical to a pottery kiln, and all...

Yes, the Facebook Pages are certainly the Wild West of advice, but that's where the people are, and that's where the cool ideas are being shared.
We know where to go for real advice. I share this page when necessary.

Not rocks. They could crack/pop in the kiln.
If you want a found mold, find bisqued pottery, terracotta pots or stainless steel bowls. Anything else may melt, warp, crack, etc.

Re: Intro, tight budget beginner
Uh... yeah. 1) Firing on carpet is a bad idea, and cement backer board will not be enough. Rip out the carpet or fire somewhere else. 2) I love recycled glass. Get window glass and some low-fire glazes (like the stuff they sell at the Glaze-It-Yourself pottery shops) and start experimenting. 3) Once...
