Re: Workbench?

Whenever possible put casters on the legs of your bench, stands, tables, etc. Also make shelves and even drawers adjustable. This makes it much easier to "tweak" your studio arrangement. Over the last ten years I must have spent an average of a couple days per month "adjusting" m...

Re: Repairing seam lines? Advice?

You could change course altogether and use this piece as the basis for "Vitri-Fusaille. That's a painting technique trademarked by Peter McGrain and perfected by Raphael Schnepf.

Re: Fusing little dots

Too hot, too long with opals leads to KW stuck to the bottoms. It's a nuisance to get it off even with enough equipment.

Re: deformed bowls

Is the shelf and mold level?

It also appears that the mold is not symmetrical. The right side looks steeper than the left and thus slumped deeper.

Did the glass "bottom out" or was the slump stopped before it had completely formed to the mold?

Re: 2013 Magnet Exchange Now Underway

Hi Melodie, Of course I'm reading (lurking) everyday. I try to stop by here whenever I notice a new post. I was, at first, disappointed to see you were not going to be able to finish because of illness. But down deep I knew there was nothing that could keep you from sending in your Mags. Of course t...

Re: Alternate Frit Maker - any downsides?

I used one of those on my first attempts at making frit. The zinc (galvanization) comes off and is part of the frit. It is not magnetic so it is not easily removed. When melted with the frit it produced ugly brown/bronze bubbles. I think it will work if made with "black" pipe pieces. Jim

Re: Screen Melts

I tried removing the sceen before the glass had completely emptied. The spikes will fall over and leave a line across the surface which may or may not look ugly. For me it was ugly so I never tried it again.

The lap grinder is made by Covington Engineering. I bought it from HIS Glassworks during their Black Friday - Cyber Monday sale. It's a beautiful, well made machine.

I paid about that price for a new MK 101 at Lowes a couple years. So used should be less, IMO.
