Re: Carboxymethylcellulose (CMC)

When firing, vent the kiln to 1000 F and hold at that temp for about 10-15 minutes. That burns off all the organics.

Re: Carboxymethylcellulose (CMC)

There are a lot of different CMCs. In general use 3-4 tablespoons to a pint of hot water for a nice viscous solution.
That is good to hold powder together.
Your definition of "glue" also makes a difference. It depends on what you want to accomplish

Re: Drilling

I have a tutorial on my site (see below) on drilling holes in pendants. They are easy to place and easy to drill. I have drilled probably over 1000 pendants and do not have a problem with chipping on exit of the drill bit. There may be a very minor chip on the back, but I use pinch bails and they co...

Five gallons of borax solution will last until the dinosaurs roam the earth for a second time. :)
I mix one pint of hot water with enough borax to saturate the water. Let cool and pour off the liquid which is the devit solution. That amount lasts me years (but I son't do whole sheets).

Re: Most up to date way to get paid?

As long as you have all the info, square is good. You can manually enter. Charge is higher for that..about the same as normal paypal.
The advantage of paypal is that the customer enters the info including address.
Note: fr taking any CC be sure to get the security code AND the billing zip code.

Re: Is an art degree necessary for you to be or become an "artist"?

Unfortunately, in this day and age, a marketing degree is far more important than an art degree in determining the financial success of an artist.

Re: glassline paint and powdered frit

Without sounding flip, I just treat paints as glass. That's pretty much what they are. Do your normal firing for the rest of the piece and it should turn our fine. The only caveat is if the maturing temperature of Glassline is above the temperature you fire at. For obvious reasons I am not familiar ...

Re: HOMEMADE IRIDIZING?

Gold Silver copper bronze and red have pretty good staying power when fused up to near 1500. Green, purple and blue are very finicky. We use interference colors for those. They use light diffraction (particle size)to create the color. Their stability goes up close to the metallic colors. pendant3439...

Easy holes a lot cheaper (no drill press): Need a rotary tool. I use the better one from Harbor freight. I also use the Foredom knockoff from HF. diamond bits $7.95 at Harbor freight or seller lau*** on ebay. Can also get diamond products from Daniel Lopacki. Holes drill easily and ultra accurately ...

Re: Disposing of ground glass

Terry, The politically sensitive answer is to not do so. I did it all the time. Our paints contain very little (relatively) solids and those are ultra fine. However, I have now installed a Gleko Trap since I do a lot (and I mean a lot) of painting and washing. After the first year, I cleaned out the...

Re: Recommendations for bench grinder?

If your work is small(jewelry sized), by far the best equipment is a lapidary grinder. Water with a fountain type system (cheap aquarium pump).
You can buy a Lortone arbor and add your own wheels. If you need more specifics, email me.

The worst part of this is that the citizens of Oregon will bear the costs of defending the suit. And the users of Bullseye will bear the prosecuting costs.

You cannot add onto dichroic. Also, Cannot cap it. Will react with underlying glass, but often not noticeable

D squared divided by 2 equals S squared.

Where D is the diameter of the circle and S is the side of the maximum square.

I do some silver clay work.
Be glad to do it for you. check around you area bead stores or schools. You might get it done there.
Otherwise I would be glad to do it for you for nothing. Problem is shipping both ways.

Bert,
Before you throw the 20 weight in the compressor, check the manual. It may take a lighter specialty oil.
