More than you want to, less than you should. What's the unemployment rate in your area (I know, Kelly, I'm just making things difficult)? Can you offer flexibility in exchange for low wages? Can your work cover paying realistic wages or do you have to $0.05 and $0.10? Will this be on the books or un...

Ron beat me to it- Bert- check that link for test results. Gale- photos won't show it, it's just like sandblasted BE sealed/coated with armorall or mineral oil but a little less wetted-looking. No glow. No fingerprints. Dee- Bob's not selling it yet? He did post prices (about US$20 for a quart). My ...

float test
Bert- I'll try to dunk some float tomorrow and will post results. I don't know if a hood is absolutely necessary with this stuff but there was a pungent odor that I could definitely live without. Also, the room had no ventilation before except for a standard bathroom vent fan. I had looked into Leri...

more on acid
HIS calls it Vari-Etch. It seems to work best on sandblasted surfaces- in the tests I ran it mottled glossy surfaces, but I may not have left the glass in the bath long enough (that's not what I was looking for). It just smooths out the blasted surface, leaves it like velvet! I was tired of sending ...

Acid
Tony and Steve- I just tested a sample of Robert Stephan's (HIS Glassworks) ammonium bifluoride stuff for sandblasted surfaces. Tested a quart, bought 10 gallons. Set up a ventilation hood, got gloves and apron and safety glasses, tubs for dipping and rinsing, baking soda for neutralizing the rinse ...

Jo- how about lowering the table height to where it's comfortable? Or standing on a small platform? I'm serious! Try it- in my studio we range from about 5'3" to 6'; there's all kinds of accomodation.

If you need to, start cracking the kiln at 250 to 300F. Start with a 1/4" gap at 300, 1/2" at 250, 3/4" at 200, 1 1/2" at 150. and 3" at 125. It'll come to room temp in no time. The above not only speeds things up, but it also makes you feel like you're actually involved in ...

UL
I think you'll find that most of us who've marketed lamps have used UL-rated components, and followed UL procedures, but not gone through the process. I also looked into it and found it prohibitively expensive. The alternative rating agencies were cheaper but not enough. I had no problem selling my ...

When good woks go bad
Steve- I used to rely on the Squidge-n-squash (tm) cheatin' technology too- squash it slightly too much in the other direction before slumping. It got too frustrating so I started thinking about a holder of some sort to keep tension from handle to handle, and having a rim welded to the outside, and ...

Check the manual? Call the dealer? Call Jen-Ken?
I would expect all the elements to go on together. An override for something like drop ring slumps would be nice too.

If you go for the large unit, I reccomend CRL. Be aware that they sell 2 machines under their name- get the one made by Bee in Canada.

Clammy hands in the sandblaster gloves?
Eureka! Put small holes in the finger tips. Air flows down the glove into the cabinet, soothes-n-cools (tm) and keeps the mold down. Smells better too.

glass fuser needs help
I'm not sure if this is appropriate for this part of the WGBB but I assume I'll be told if it's not. I've known Bruce Laughlin for a while, he's a good guy, a straight shooter, taught silk screening on glass, has been a glass fuser for over 25 years (he was a graphic designer before that). He's done...

Wok this way
Non ss will scale.
Some woks will eventually deform to an oval.
Sandblast, heat, spray kilnwash.
Or sandblast, spray or brush boron nitride.
Don't know about float.
Check archives for all the above and much much more.

12 volts
Bert- Is it really cheaper? Or is it merely necessary when shows limit your wattage? I usually pay for 2K watts= 35 to 40 50watt spots. Your transformer cost? And how heavy/big? Marty
