Shasta, we do some fusing with Effetre and have not seen this problem. We use Effetre when we incorporate murrine we make into fused pieces, but the murrine are complex and detailed which is why we use Effetre for them...can't beat that color palette! However, when I use millie in fusing I make my o...

Someone posted here not long ago that they grind what will be the bottom of each stringer flat so they don't roll about. Haven't tried it but it makes sense and sounds easy.

Thanks Tony, that is good to know. After we slice our murrine on the tile saw we always take them to 400 grit on the lap wheel prior to fire polishing to get the cleanest gloss, but if 120 or 180 works with sandblasting that's great! A more versatile grit. By the way, the sandblasting section on you...

I am wanting to sandblast the surface of pieces and then firepolish them back to full gloss. I am looking for Aluminum oxide grit and have a few questions. Do I want white or brown, and how fine do I need to get? Someone told me 180 should be o.k., but that seems a bit coarse if I want to get it bac...

Hey Suntoys. Great work. We work in 104 too. I do some in bullseye, but our main work is in 104. We make murrine using the kiln and torch w/ Moretti glass and then incorporate it into fused pieces and torch made marbles (see our website below). We are in the beginning stages of setting up a small ho...

Keeping them separate and labeled right when they enter your studio or home is a good idea. You can see from the color charts that 069, 072, and 076, as well as a few more will strike for you. http://www.beadfx.com/catalogue/glasschart.html Effetre colors are really beautiful, we use them for our mu...

Dan, this is not the most helpful link but it should give you and idea, as the rods and sheet are the same colors. Just use your imagination to see sheet glass in place of rods.

Peg, have you found this in general with Effetre in fusing, or only when you include millefiori? Do you make your own millefiori or are you buying it? We make our own milli and murrine and fuse them with effetre sheet and have not experienced incompatibility cracks. I hope we won't begin to see them...

Arrowsprings has the best selection of Moretti colors COE 104 that I have found. They just added some new colors that are not on the site yet, you can ask them about them by phone or email. http://www.arrowsprings.com/html/moretti_sheets.html We use moretti to make lampworked murrine, some of which ...

Sharpie has new (new to me, but I don't get out much) 'industrial strength' black markers that hold up pretty well in the saw if they have set for a few minutes. Clean off in a snap with alcohol or soap/water/scotch scrubby. The place I get my glass from marks all the sheets with a white paint pen a...

Tony, you use borax for a fire polish? or are you going back up to full fuse? Using paper makes sense, too. Thanks for your help.

Wow, so I can get it back to full gloss? Great. He assured me that that wasn't possible, but I see folks mention that technique here from time to time so I had been wondering. Now I just need to find someone to sandblast for a decent fee. Thanks so much Charlie.

Unfortunately I have no sandblaster. I took it to someone who does have one and he said if we sandblasted it, even with a firepolish the effects of the sandblasting would remain. Perhaps he just has a very coarse grit?

Flip and firepolish?

With what I have been making recently, I have been wanting the side that was on the kiln shelf in full fuse to become the top/inside of the finished piece. I have been having a terrible time with surface defects when I try to flip and fire polish. I am cleaning the glass super well with soap and wat...

That was my first thought too, looks like a striking color. If that's the case you'll be in luck as you can be sure of getting it again.

They are just south of Asheville, off 26 at the airport exit, about an hour and a half or so west of Boone. They might let you stop in but they aren't set up for retail on site at all, but true to its name it IS a warehouse full of glass and related tools...fun! I think their retail site shouldn't b...

As it is right now, they are not set up for retail on location, just mail order. However, this winter they are opening a great new retail space (also in Arden) that they will have flameworking classes at and everything (maybe fusing classes too?). They are super nice folks, visit their web site. lis...
