I've never heard of that- might be a Canadian thing, eh? Hope you were earning interest on the account. A few extra thou? I'd buy a glass lathe. It sounds like it might be a Canadian thing, judging by the response. We only have a handful of banks up here, however even with just those few, things ar...

charge card deposits
When I first got my merchant VISA a few years ago I was required to place several thousand dollars on deposit as security to cover any chargebacks, etc. Was talking to my issuing company about something else, and found out (by chance) that I can apply to have my account reviewed and request the mone...

Re: tried & true firing schedule not working anymore

This has worked for me also. Placing the fused disk into the mold can be done without a suction cup too. Center it in the mold as follows: Balance the disk on the fingertips of your left hand, right side down, then lower the mold upside down over the disk with your right hand, eyeballing for level. ...

Re: Artist's Bio / Statement - Critiques Comments
Despite completing an M.A. in ancient Greek literature, I was still unemployable, so turned to computer studies. This line of work was very engrossing for a few years, as it forces one to think both linearly and laterally at the same time. But soon I felt something was missing, until I realized tha...

Thanks for the tips. My only concern is that I also use the same kiln for pottery and I'm not sure about the formula with clay. When you're going to fire glass you'll want to scrape your shelves down and apply kiln wash so why not apply BE then. In general, glass requires a much smoother kiln shelf...

Try bamboo skewers or round toothpicks dipped in thick bead release and allowed to dry. The wood burns out and leaves a hole. The skewers leave a larger hole than toothpicks if that is a consideration. Stainless steel mandrels dipped in bead release also work. Once the wood burns out (which would b...

Re: fusing with fiberboard to make holes
Hi, I have been trying to make holes in small pieces of glass (1 in) for jewelry with fiber board. I've put a small pad of fiber between two layers, trying it with both float and bullseye, and have full fused them at 1550. The glass however, seems to buckle up and not wrap ...

Brick kilns with elements in the lid will drop brick crud on your work. Don't crash cool since this just hastens the decay of the brick, vacuum the lid on occasion. Treat the lid with care in opening and closing so you don't dislodge any loose pieces of brick crud and dust. If you really find this i...

IV drip system can be adjusted to give you the speed of water delivery you need. Dang...been using one of those things on the cat for 2 weeks. Cat didn't make it, so I threw the IV unit away. Could have been a very expensive investment that went into the garbage. Anyway, I found the turn-type nozzl...

To add to (rather than answer) the topic, how do you approach writing a bio when you haven't been a professional artist for several years? I was recently approached by a gallery to sell my work on consignment, but I've no idea what to write for the bio requested. I've only officially been in busine...

Re: using irid
You can resist, cut, and blast, or dremel, designs into the irid on top or bottom, or both sheets of a sandwich of a dark irid and a cap of clear irid. Brock
When I try this technique (with BE90) my irids always come out really, really dark. The piece seems to have no sparkle unless a light ...
