[quote="Brad Walker"]Originally, I was going to just lift up and come back down in the same place, and a regular hoist would work fine for that. The bell has the elements (side and top); the bottom is just a welded frame with legs and a welded box to hold the fire bricks on which to sit a ...

Hey Brad Why do you need to swivel it out of the way? Why not just lift it vertically and leave it there? You will use up much less space that way. I'm in the process of designing a bell kiln myself (with Bert's help) and that's what we're shooting for. It will raise/lower on vertical runners so cot...

Thanks for the reply, Tony! Yes, the darned thing just has an "on" and "off" switch...no medium, lo, or high. Perhaps once the firebrick is repaired, it will cool more slowly? In the meantime, I guess I will just try and come up with some safe ways to insulate the gaps during co...

Re: Info needed for new glass person

Q: I'd like to know if these glasses can be fired. And if anyone has any suggestions as to what to use for color, and any other information that will be useful to me, I'd appreciate the assistance. Yes, these glasses can be fired but not together...they are likely different COE which makes them inc...

For the first time I have to hire help as well. My husband can't go because the show is the first week of school and my little one will be in 2nd grade. We're getting a larger booth this year and if I have help I can actually walk the floor and shop for our gallery too. I've asked my assistant to g...

Re: first tiles

Hey all, Wildfire here! I'm going to be making my first tiles and I have a few beginner questions. First, do I have to use dams? and fiberboard? What is the best way for me to go about this whole thing? Thanks for any help like I said this is my first tile. (and my first post :D ) If your ti...

Re: Power loss - strange thing with kiln

I had a RampMaster I turn itself on after a power interruption last week. I can't recall having it happen with my RampMaster II, but you might give Rob Bartlett a call at (319)372-8366 and ask him about it. Bartlett Instruments makes the RampMaster II as well as the controllers for a number of other...

Re: Questionable: Gallery starts wholesaling to other galler

I signed a contract with the gallery (consignment) and there was no mention that they would wholesale. Am I right (or wrong) in considering that unless the gallery buys outright the work still belongs to me until it is sold? Shouldn't I have been consulted? Am I sitting on a real high horse and shou...

I've been talking to a welder about types of metal channel to hold multiple panels together as a larger architectural installation. A good welding shop is worth its weight in gold. If you don't like the raw metal look take it to a powder coating shop.

Why not just have the cable company run a line to your shop? Even if you pay a monthly fee for having an extra concection it should be cheaper than having a wireless carrier too.

Let me echo what Dani says. In fact one of my kilns doesn't even have a kiln sitter on it...it's broken and I've just never gotten around to having it fixed because it interfered with moving shelves in and out easily. I would recommend buying a pyrometer. If you set your kilns up to run when you're ...

I will sometimes do a full fuse firing to get most of the elements in place with a smooth full fused look, then do a second tack fuse to attach frit if I want it to stay textured and/or raised. Then the slump would be a third firing.
