I have my kilns (they're ceramics kilns) on plywood platforms with 4 cabinet wheels on each. That way I can roll them away for storage when I'm going away for a couple of days...I run them in the breezeway. The wheels were purchased at a lumberyard, are hard black plastic and have a locking mechanis...

Avery labels work well. They also have a downloadable Avery Wizard that can be downloaded that will set up your addresses for any size and type of label they make.

How many thicknesses of glass did you fire? One or two? It sounds like it may have been overfired on one side...that can cause little needlelike projections.

Are you all having to buy digital machines as well as the knuckebuster? I just have the manual machine and then phone in to a 1-800 number for authorization, either by cell from the show or that evening. If you can find that set up it saves purchasing 2 machines.

Take your cell phone and use it to phone in any card numbers you are unsure of right from the booth. Otherwise just phone them in each night as a batch. If you look around you may find a bank that will let you use a knucklebuster without also purchasing a terminal. Here's a trick I learned years ago...

[quote="Bob"]I keep on thinking of a comparison between glass and a guitar. Anybody that buys a guitar gets the exact same thing... six stings attached to a resonating box. Hmm, Bob anybody who buys a guitar does NOT get the exact same thing...you can buy a $200 mass produced guitar or you...

014 or 015 should work, however it's not that simple for anything beyond bottles or small pieces. For most work what you need is a pyrometer, available from most ceramic suppliers. Temperature control is often more sophisticated than can be supplied merely by popping in a cone. You should also test ...

Get the right wheels for the thickness of glass you are cutting.

Bert...can you elaborate on this...what thickness glass can I use regular cutters for? Why/what type of wheel would I need for thicker glass (how thick?). Would different pliers help with thicker glass too?

ferro mediums

Just curious to know if anyone is mixing their Ferro powders with Klyr Fire as a medium? It seems to have pretty much the same ingredients as the Ferro 683 medium sample they sent me. I also have a pine tar oil based medium which I haven't tried yet. Would that be the oil medium you are speaking abo...

Re: How Do I Look?

This sounds like a silly question, but many posts say to check your project so that you can go directly to anneal or 'stop' the fireing process. Many posts say NOT to crack open your kiln until the temp during the annealing process has dropped to 200 or less. This seems like a contradiction to me. ...

I have really tiny hands and it works well for me. To adjust for small hands, unscrew the brass cap and place the thumb rest on the barrel, then the black ring. For large hands the black ring goes on first. I use the ring finger of my right hand on the cutter head to help direct the score.

If it's only an inch or two too large you may be able to have a carpenter come and remove the casing temporarily, then replace it once the kiln is in.

I wouldn't be without my tap cutter. It's great for any hard to cut glass. If you do stained glass and use Spectrum's Baroque you'll know the cuts occasionally "have a mind of their own" no matter how good your score. The tap cutter eliminates this. It's also useful for any heavily texture...
