Re: drop ring fell off center
3 things I thought, I kiln not even heating, or schedule should go slower, lower and longer, or needs recalibrate. 2. my kiln isn't perfectly level. it's level but slightly off. 1mm maybe. 3. I didn't place the glass blank perfectly centered. but maybe you are right need to beore precise center in t...

drop ring fell off center
Unsure why one side pulled off center. one side thick the other paper thin. I checked level of kiln and it's pretty close to level if anything a hair off. the outer ring was 3mm thick and inner ring 9mm. dropping about 6inches. . heating schedule ramp 250 degrees to 1000, hold 30, ramp 250 to 1150 h...

fusing intiricate pattern.
I'm. doing a new piece, there are a few gaps but mostly tight. what's the best way, should I place these on a clear round sheet, or cap with clear? I will add some frit to fill the larger gaps. but I'm hoping if cap it the gala will fill more even. . if i fuse it alone will round edges too much and ...

Re: can't figure out what I. did different
maybe it has additives but it's gold mica powder. did I not fire hot or long enough, is that why center stayed gold color? or the black lines is that from contamination with other powders?

can't figure out what I. did different
I added mica powder and it created beautiful blue bubble, but now I'm getting dark black lines and some spots of gold in. the center. I'm. not sure if I changed heating schedule, mixed different portion of powder and glycol, I'm. trying to duplicate result but can't understand why things are differe...

Re: strange result
788 c same as always just seemed so strange to have a circle hole in one edge and it drip away like that. unless my sensor needs calibrating but kiln is new and has been fine. also same time I fired a piece with mica powder had the coolest effect, it all turned sea blue green bubbles with someone bl...

keeping Texture on glass
I made some molds from shells as casted them, they have nice texture if I tack fuse to a project will the texture be flattened. Or is the only solution to glue. them on? I guess I could use powdered glass and paint the details to look like the pattern. but I was hoping to. keep the original pattern,...

Re: kiln wash residue
thanks Joyce very kind of you. I have a belt sander, so will try and smooth the shelves down. but as I live in Beijing I don't have space in my apartment to be blowing dust everywhere so I didn't want to do it unless necessary. my shelves are 12x12. inches. I've thought about ordering thinfire or pa...

Re: kiln wash residue
I'm currently living in Beijing. it's so hard to. get good quality things here. I've wasted about 1000 dollars on faulty equipment and materials. I miss being able to create things in the US. it was so easy to get what I need. but I'm learning to make everything myself. making molds is probably the ...

Re: kiln wash residue
I've never fire polished something. just wondered how it would keep it's shape if heat up to. fire polish it. if I. put the bowl. upside down on the kiln shelf wouldn't it just flatten if I heated it up to. fire polish it? is there a way to keep the glossy finish and not ruin the bowl? part of my pr...

Re: first attempt with new kiln
yeah, so. if I set the speed too fast for the machine it just goes back up to last phase. I have to cool the kiln and then set a anneal phase separate. the controller is desigbed for ceramics, but after 2 firings I. figured that. I was using small pieces of glass. my fire schedule was 400 ramp until...

first attempt with new kiln
I had an error after the phase went to annealling temp it went back up to past fusing temperature. I was planning on just tack fusing to have texture and depth. but it melted flat.
it looks like scaling or devitrification. is it because temperature increase too quickly?
