If you try it I'd recommend rinsing it extremely well before putting it back in the kiln. I'm just guessing here but the smell of hot pee evaporating is probably not a good one... -A Oh yeah! Pee Steam. How'd the parfumiers ever miss that one? Brock The really unfair part is that if it does work wo...

I use the same BE kilnwash. I find that with all things its a matter of trial and error and what works best for you. I use three coats of it prepared as stated, painted in three different directions, fired to 500 for 10 minutes. I will refire on a wash that has gone to 1450 several times (that's as ...

Maybe its just me but I find different glasses also determine whether I recoat. Cathedrals have less problems with kiln wash sticking than opals--if I am using opals I scrape and recoat more often. Black especially seems to want to have kiln wash stick to it. I refire on one coating a number of time...

I understand the reluctance of people who are fairly well established in the field – and who have received much artistic feedback already in their careers – to subject themselves to the ‘pubic’ critique process. Oh I know I should be all serious and pithy if I am writing in this thread but ...

If all you care about is selling then this attitude is fine. For those of us who want to grow as artists our motivations are different.

COE stands for coefficient of expansion. 90 and 96 mean that those two types of glass expand and contract at different rates. Therefore if you mix the two when they are cooling they will contract differently and break apart. It may not "explode" or hurt your kiln but you cannot make someth...

Naturally, this changes the entire "feel" of the piece though. I just pretended the assignment was that I was given the piece in it's current state of "doneness" and had to figure out what would I do to finish it. That WAS what I wanted. To get other opinions on the next step(s)...

I'm amazed at the precision and patience required to do a piece like this. I tried working with some silver leaf one time and it drove me crazy (I believe I had many pieces stuck to my hair and permanently adhered to my studio floor when I finally gave up). I realize that it isn't part of the plan b...

I agree Linda--there should be rules and guidlines for critique--if there were it would be less likely that the wrong things would be said and people would be hurt. This reminds me of a review for a show I once read in the paper. The reviewer listed what the most expensive pieces were, talked about ...

Cynthia if they haven't read that other thread they are going to think you mean I am the evil critic!! 8-[

Old people and their anecdotes: The grade and high school I attended was big on sports but equally big on music, vocal music. It was a parochial (Catholic) school and the church "robed choir" was as highly regarded as the winning athletic teams. It was customary for Miss K.... to come to ...

I think what Brock is saying is (correct me if I'm wrong Brock)...okay hypothetically lets say someone posts something that is not very good--bad technique, uninspired or whatever, and all the responses are praising the work is that the right thing to do? The best example is Dr. Steve's latest thread. Fantastic work that we, at least I, all want to see and like to know there is more on the site. He gets lots of deserved praise and no criticism. Criticism would seem out of place because he wasn't really posting with that in mind. This is just an asid...

As some of you know about a year ago this subject was brought up in reference to someone's work, NOT someone on the board but someone claiming to be very skilled and charging a lot of money for work that a number of us thought was substandard in skill. The response to this subject was quite surprisi...
