Re: Glass Straws. Revisited

May I ask one last question on this? The flower pot has gone though 4 cycles of pulling canes with no cracks or problems. Should I let it retire and plant a Daisey and just thank the glass angels? Can I keep using it ? This is my first pot and I wonder, when they crack during firing does the glass g...

Brock. Your post is the first on this board that ever made me laugh out loud. Great "relief" for this 5 hour flight.

Re: USPS

I shipped though USPS last week to Israel who happened to be a repeat customer. In the span on 11 months they tacked on 18.45 worth of fees. It doesn't make any sense that it would go up that much plus it made the customer question if I was padding the shipping ..which I never do!! I should when cra...

Re: Birds Nest at Cyclone Cabin

Thank you Leslie! I've been curious since I saw a post on Facebook... Someone broke into a gallery and stole a bunch of this artists work. She posted photos of the missing items. I'm glad he took the time to put numbers on the bundles of rods ..hope they all match with BE. He said they were all from...

Re: Chihuly App

Is it still true that Dale Chihuly hasn't touched an actual piece of glass in years and he's more of a pirate captain figurehead directing his little glass gnomes here and there?

Re: Pens that don't burn off.

"pilot" pens in gold and silver have worked for me in the past. You can also thin glass enamel paint and use a nib.

Re: Birds Nest at Cyclone Cabin

Really, really nice work! Question, what happens if a gallery has an accident with your work? I was just picked up by a local one and am very curious. Thank you very much for that link, I have about 60 lbs of BE rods that a retiring flamworker gave me. They are all bundled and marked with numbers. N...

Re: Glass Straws

Cynthia,
Thanks very much for your detailed explanation. I really appreciate it! Very nice necklace!

Brad, yes, I did notice it this time around, after the straws became thin I just made stringers.

Such wonderful help, I'm very thankful.

Re: Glass Straws

Actually, they work beautifully for straws, or for slicing up, filling with frit and stuff, and firing. I'm using them to make what amounts to furnace glass beads, and they're gorgeous. I'm getting so I'd almost rather have the hollows than the solids. Wow, Id love to see what you're making. When I...

Oh Thank you! My husband was messing around with them this morning- drank his cereal milk with them. TOO funny. Great Idea about putting stringers in them. I was able to stick 10 in one!
Thank you VERY much!

Glass Straws

While I would LOVE to take classes from experienced folks I am unable, as I help care for an elderly neighbor. I have wanted to make my own canes and bought all the equipment, read everything I could find and finally did it last night. It was not hard! I pulled mostly pencil width cane in hues of bl...

Re: Kiln Wash on Walls

Is your kiln level? I have never slumped a bottle however i doubt they would roll around that much. You could put a barrier up made of kiln posts or thinly cut kiln shelves. Even cut up bottle rings would work.
Good luck
