I'm a bit confused about 'firing to bisque'. I had a package of clay in my hands last night, but it said to fire to cone 5 or 6. That's about 2100-2200 degrees according to my chart. Isn't that well over the recommended high temps for a glass kiln? I was thinking of firing it to around 1500 so it wo...

I just looked in my Sunshine catalog. Maybe you want Sun Sculptures molds? Possibly there is a pic on their website.

Don, nice design on the circle. They would make a spectacular transom. I have a question about that piece and this one.
Do you test for tin side on your float to see which side to put the SS? I've heard non-tin side will take SS better. What's the buzzzzz?

I did one that was a beezer to get the label and glue off. I used a razor blade for most of it and Goo-Gone with a scrubbie got the rest of the glue. It wasn't a paper label, but some sort of plastic.

We have coffee mugs for the boat with that silicon in a ring around the bottoms. It keeps them from sliding. I've been putting in them in the dishwasher for 3 years now and it's still fine.
It's only attached to the mug though and nothing else, so it could make a difference.

Lynne- this may seem perverse, but that actually makes me feel better. Something to that phrase misery loves company after all. Bert- I guess it was going to be a 9" drop after my goof with the rim. Turns out that wasn't my only problem. I was my problem. Gotta learn to let heating glass...

Minimum rim width for drop out?

Is there a minimum recommended safe distance for a rim on a drop out? I made my own mold and either measured wrong or the glass shrunk, so I've got about 1/2" rim and would like to drop about 2 1/2" for a 10" bowl. It was supposed to be an inch rim. I know the glass gods have g...

Becca, I have used alot of different colors of halo luster. The only ones I have found to hold up to full fuse are the gold and platinum. The others burn out to a red brown color. Also, are you firing the glass with the lusters first and then cap? Yes. the lustered pieces were fired first to about ...

Becca, did you dot the antique gold over the blue? Or are the two haloes in different spaces? I am guessing that the color change may have been a chemical reaction between the two halo colors. Gold luster sometimes goes pink or purple anyway (never when you want it to, only when you don't!) Barbara...

Check out the Triple Ripple bits at HIS Glassworks. That's just one kind and one place to get them. There are also diamond core drill bits for drilling holes in glass. A couple SG suppliers have them and I think Glastar makes one. If you go with the Tripple Ripple, you may need smaller collets for t...

I haven't used the craquel or marbling, but I have used the halo lusters. But on this piece, what started out as Antique Blue Halo with Gold Halo turned lavender/purple after being capped and brought to full fuse and again going lighter in color on the slump. I wanted to cap with clear for a plate, ...
