Re: S/Steel tube ,patten bar

I put our round pattern bar formers on end like this in every full fuse. No special temps are needed. They shink in height around 25%. If you spray the 1/8" fiber paper with MR97 before loading it the glass will slide easier with no spikes!

Re: pitted shelf

I recently purchased some Ceramic Coating made by Primo Primer that is supposed to solve this problem. I then purchased a perfect new smooth shelf so I have this unopened. If you want to try it email me! To read more about it go to Ed Hoy and look under Primo Shelf coating I think.

Re: Damming Flip and Fire

Cynthia......about the MR97 on fiber.......if someone has a small studio and only a small grinder.....and is doing let's say scrap melts ....the MR97 on the fiber paper makes a huge difference. I have done side by side tests on my birdbaths that are piles of scrap glass getting melted.......can't al...

Re: Damming Flip and Fire

3 layers is probably over kill. I also spray the inside of the 1/8th inch with mr97 so that I get no spikes that need grinding off. My other suggestion would be.....if you cap it in clear you arenprobably going to have quite a few bubbles. I would consider doing it in 2 steps....cap in second firing...

Re: first break in a long time

I fire 9999 to anneal all the time and I never have issues…..I think it depends on your kiln and how fast it cools. mine is very insulated and cools slowly.

Re: first break in a long time

hold at 300 does nothing
I personally would not hold at 1350 because it is in the devit range…..but I guess it worked for you last time?
is the base glass already fused as I see no bubble squeeze?

Re: Does mr97 really need to be reapplied every firing?

As I said....i have not used it on a shelf yet......but Warren Norguaard (who is the glass artist who started the face book page Fused Glass Fanatics) has said that he does use it on shelves and really likes the finish it leaves on the back of the glass. On a new shelf he gives it a double spray.......

Re: Does mr97 really need to be reapplied every firing?

On casting molds I brush it off with a stiff brush and just lightly spray again. We are distributors for MR97 and I am still learning new ways to use it. One great way I have discovered recently is that if you spray mr97 on your 1/8" fiber paper that you line stainless steel rings with ....you ...

Re: first break in a long time

Way too fast. Personally I would anneal for 2 hours then 50/hr to 800, hold 60 and off. Such a fun piece too! I would refuse it although to heal the cracks you will lose the wonderful effect you got from the tac fuse.

Re: Making channels with fiber paper

As a potter I made fused glass wind chimes on pottery bells for years. What we did was to make a u shape of nichrome wire and fuse it between 2 pieces of glass. 25 years later I have customers tell me they still have theirs.

Re: How could I have prevented these bubbles?

If you want absolutely no bubbles in a piece prefire your base with out the edge design. It will weight it down just enough to trap some air. It does take an extra firing but can be worth it. I can fire a 24" round of 96 with the schedule Dana suggested......going 50 degrees an hour from 1100 t...
