Hi Dairy,
if you could give a fuller description of your glasses used, your firing schedule, your layup/layout, and your process, I think you'll get better information.
warm regards,
Eric

Seeking advice regarding gallery/previous clients
Hi all, I've a new circumstance that I'd like advice on: I was contacted approximately a year ago by an art consulting firm that is out-of-state. I sent them some samples, and they've tried to include my work into a couple of projects, however those opportunities have not worked out--at least so far...

Re: lettering fused into or onto glass
Hi Tracy, thanks for the reference to the printer. I suspect that's probably the direction I'll be heading for this project... Hi Buttercup, the funny part of the story is that my wife and I tore the house apart, and found the book stuffed down into, and buried inside of, a tub in a closet. I think ...

Re: lettering fused into or onto glass
@Chaim, I don't think that technique would work for this particular need, but I had forgot about that possibility--and the thought of trying out a vinyl plotter, or even a cricut to cut some flexi-glass is intriguing. I have no idea what sorts of blades the cricut uses, but I'll check with my friend...

Re: lettering fused into or onto glass
Judith, you're the bomb! (Bob, you are too!) This sharing of experience-- and materials, too-- is why I love the glass community. I'm typing this up on my tablet, Judith, when I get back home tonight, I'll get my sample names together and send you an email. I don't know why I'd need more than one sh...

Re: lettering fused into or onto glass
Hi Brad, thanks for all of those options, too. Particularly for this project, I bought Jody's book. Then my toddler stole it and hid it somewhere in the house. I mentioned earlier in the thread this funny, but frustrating, situation. I'll grill my toddler under a bright lamp and under the threat of ...

Re: lettering fused into or onto glass
Hi Judd, Thanks for that input. Money's tight, as it is for many of us, and I'm not entirely sure what printer (and how expensive) will suffice. I'd hate to drop a couple of hundred dollars and then find out I missed buying the right one. Doing some googling before I posted this query led me to a co...

Oh yeah, my handwriting is abhorrent... truly.
I took a calligraphy class once. The teacher recommended I become a doctor, and she gave up on my penmanship ever being a 'work of art'.

Re: lettering fused into or onto glass
Hi Valerie, Thanks for that topic link; I had been watching that one for tips and advice. A funny story: I had bought Jody's book, and it was shipped to me very promptly (thanks Brad and Jody). Upon arrival at my house, my toddler got his hands on it, and carried through the house and lost it. Liter...

lettering fused into or onto glass
Hi fellow glass lovers, I've got a potential project that will involve making approx. 300 small (3" x 6" x 0.25" glass panels). They're intended to show off donor names in a hospital project, so obviously, they'll have unique names on each glass panel. I've never used photo fusing pap...

Re: Firing crushed bottles...
Hi Scotty, I hope your project's off to a good start. Full Disclosure: I've never used float glass, nor bottle glass in a kiln-forming project! But I do have a question regarding heat-work. Why fire so fast to 1600-1700? Okay, perhaps to avoid devitrification. But if I need some of my stiffer Bullse...

Re: HEPA vacuum
Hi Seachange, I got a dust collector from Glastar a few years back: http://www.glastar.com/catalog/sandblasting/hepa.cfm It's currently $540, and it accepts the Cleanstream HEPA filters ($30 and reusable) that I mention earlier in this thread. This system has worked great for my large sandblast cabi...

Re: HEPA vacuum
Okay, I checked in the studio this morning: the HEPA filters I use in my 16 gallon shop-vacs are Gore CleanStream . www.cleanstreamfilters.com 800-758-6755 Again, I use them for all my refractory cleanup (with fine particle/dry-wall particle filter bags inside the vac, also), thinfire and kilnwash d...

Re: HEPA vacuum
The Home Depot has a nice HEPA filter that's washable/reusable for about $30 (here in Oklahoma, anyway). I'll try to find the name of it in the shop or on their website and post it here tomorrow. I have 2 heavy duty Ridgid shop vacs that get put through their paces. Additionally, I use this HEPA fil...

Re: Plate broke during slumping
In that same thought process, I sometimes raise my molds slightly on pieces of kiln furniture (checking for level afterwards), in order for the air to move more freely around the molds. It looks like your mold is sitting on the kiln floor. Proximity to elements and restricted air flow beneath the gl...

But it was going to be lovely!
A fine attempt, and I love the texture on the shell's plating. I hope you try it again...

Eric
