I'm with you Sara, I try real hard to make sure that everything has a finished smooth professional finish. Have you tried the wood stick things that burn out? I've had a few of my friends tell me it works but haven't tried it myself yet. Another beading buddy and I will probably try it this weekend...

Ara you prabably don't need to do as much on those type pendants as on beads, it's a cardinal sin to sell a bead with bead release in the hole LOL. true it's easier for bead release to 'release' when the temps aren't as high. I'm quite anal and would never let a pendant go out my door with any rele...

[quote I don't know if it raises the value of your work, or stiffs you out of what you should be getting. Essentially the gallery is adding yet another level of cost to the item in this case. You work may end up in The Glass Shack rather than Pismo...and if Pismo finds out, they might not want to ca...

The mandrell needs to be rough sanded where you put the release so it will stay on the mandrel. I would go with super blue sludge or fusion bead release to coat with, that's what I use on beads that are going to be heated and worked alot. After you fire, soak the mandrels in warm water to soften th...

Methinks Barbara is closest in understanding what sales are all about. I NEVER consign my work, I am not the bank for a gallery  either the gallery likes my work or doesn't. True I often wonder what type of gallery my work is in. Some places I'm sure are the scourge and others are very prestig...

On the other hand, I recently had the pleasure of purchasing several pieces from an artist I've never seen before out of New Mexico. His work is rough, boy is it rough! But there is such personality in it and the pieces are so happy! Each and every one had it's own little wit and sense of humor. Th...

Shame on you all. Why rake this woman, her work and pricing structure across the board? Creative expression is individual, as is perceived value. She doesn't need to live with her conscious . . you do !

In years past, I have gotten Email addresses. This year people are very reluctant to give out their Email info. I will have to do a post card mailing this year which is much harder and more expensive than an Emailing. It really bums me out that the Email thing has been ruined by spammers. I was dis...

Re: Cost Benefits of doing shows?

than consign (always a good thing). One of my purchasers from the show has contacted me since, and purchased two more pieces. He's a collector and that is a good thing to have. I would be interested to hear what others think about the pro's and con's of doing craft shows like this...words of wisdom...

Sara - what did you pay for your maching - I am looking to upgrade later this summer and am just starting to research this - Unlike alot of others I have been reading about - I have experienced requests and chargebacks mostly from people who say they weren't in Wisconsin, when I call them it always...

A bit OT - Some jewelers go to the extent of making their own wire and sheet goods. Seriously. Shot is used for lost wax casting. Gold and silver shot is less money than wire or sheet. Melt the shot, pour into an ingot and run the ingot through a rolling mill. They claim the finished product is les...

Re: nurit ?

[quote="Terry Ow-Wing"]Just came back from a computer show at the "Cow Palace" in San Francisco. Many of the vendors had a nurit type of set up and we observed a vendor running in and out of the building to get reception on her machine. Saw another vendor holding the machine to t...

Re: nurit ?

Sara, Is your new machine the Nurit 3010? I'm looking to replace my outdated setup...old analog phone, cellular interface & hypercom. I have heard with some of the new ones, it depends on the location.....then you see artists holding their machines, moving place to place for better reception. H...

Claudia, We used a knuckle buster for quite a long time although after a show we did last November decided it was time to upgrade . . . more and more people are using their credit cards for all purchases and we sure believe that if you're doing glass as a business you better be prepared. I've finally settled on dates and location for the 2003 Warm Glass Weekend conference. It will be held from Sept 11 to 13 at the Quality Suites in Arlington, Virginia (Washington, DC suburb). More details to come. Yo Brad, Deb Libby is already tempting me 'cause Dee Janssen and I will be doing a sh...

If you're not willing to do the learning curve, you will be easily discouraged and that is as it should be, I think. The only thing I learned from the one workshop I took is that there is no secret trick (you mean I have to practice?!!). ellen I'm really going to be unpopular here but while everyon...

Re: no more saw scum please

Jackie, After cutting your pieces do you put them in water until ready to clean them or do you let the pieces dry and then take em to the cleaning bath? Surprisingly if you keep the cut pieces wet until ready to clean up you won't be letting that nasty glass cutting scum stick to the glass . . . onc...
